RIDGE

This morning I received a message on my computer from a woman who was referred to my Journal and realized that she and her daughter had been to our farm.

This 18+ hand boy is Ridge. He is following his owner Aubrey, who came out to the farm last year (with her Mom and brother) looking for a boarding facility. The horse she was supposed to get at that time was sold out from under her, and she ended up with this one some time later. Even with this coloring, he is indeed a Percheron...4 years old and some good looker. It appears to me that he is very happy at his boarding facility, where Aubrey is helping with chores.

Interesting colour. Is he papered and everything?

Is that horse from Ashville, NC? Looks like one I saw when I went to a wedding one summer.

What a cute horse (well, cure isn't really the right word for such a big horse)! I've always loved the drafts, and he's beautiful!

He is so handsome! I am a sucker for chestnut draft horses though!

Beautiful, I would have to have a ladder to get up there!

There is no mistaking him for the gentle giant that he is..... nice movement in the photo. Is he currently at your barn?

Hi - this is Aubrey! Yes, he's a papered Percheron - I bought him from some people that breed Percherons and Belgians in Caledonia, NY. As far as I know, he's never been to North Carolina. His registered name is "Hope It's A Joke" because his chestnut coloring only occurs once in about 12,000 Percheron births! He was DNA certified purebred Percheron, though - at first they thought maybe one of the Belgian stallions got to their Percheron mare.

I've been having lots of fun training him - this picture was actually taken a few weeks after I got him, and is at my house. Since he had been in a big herd of horses, and was the only one at our house, he bonded to me really fast. One of his favorite games is "tag"....that's what we're playing here. I also taught him to give me a kiss - annnnnd we're working on western riding as well. I hope to be able to take him out on trails this summer.

Thanks for all the compliments! I think he's gorgeous, but it's nice to know you do too!
