An Old Fashioned 4th of July....Tradition!

In the 70s at 6:30am and it got hotter and hotter....muggy too!

Did a couple things around the house....Gary worked on some hand mowing.  At 11 we went down to the Morgan Manning House for a very traditional 4th of July.  Before we arrived, there was a parade around the block, full of kids all duded up for the holiday.  134 of them were participants and volunteers from the Camp Abilities program that is currently taking place at the college.  It is an amazing program for the visually impaired and they participate in every activity you can think of.  Our grandson, Finn, is doing this for the second year and has been assigned to a 12 year old boy who is blind.  Quite the experience.

We also missed the community chorus, which is made up of interested people of all ages and they have a couple of practices before they perform.  After that....a community band.  Students, parents, teachers.  Three generations from one family were in the band.
We have been doing this for decades and so have most of the others in attendance.  We started off with a hot dog and a drink.
Jenny (who is on the Morgan Manning Board) spent 4 hours in the food booth.  She is a very active volunteer.

Hundreds of people were there.
Many friends.

Finn stopped to say hello before going back to the college.  He started last Saturday and will be there for an entire week, staying in a dorm and helping his assigned student.  He said it has been great.
At noon,
Your American Jukebox was on deck.

The last event of the day is the Cake Walk.

Cakes are donated and both children and adults participate.  It's like playing musical chairs and the last person wins the cake.  Very popular.

Home around two and binge watched the end of the Netflix series "Suits."
Made Naan pizza for dinner.  This time we did it on the grill so I would not have to put on the oven.

Chores at 8:15.  Slightly cooler.

Got the boys tucked in...the barn temperature was around 70.

Over and out.
Night all.
PS
It was nice to have a distraction from the political crisis we are in.  I do have some serious suggestions.
The "Supremes" need a major adjustment.  Term limits, a code of ethics and the integrity to be non partisan.  The New York Times needs to publish a fact a day regarding all of the crimes and dirty deeds done by Trump. He's the one that should be removed from running.  Biden messed up, but Trump has NEVER been qualified to be President.  The 2025 document is extremely scary....I don't think the maga supporters would appreciate living under their ideas any more than I would.  I could go on for hours.  We are in very deep S***! What a joke...Independence Day and look where we are.....

The media needs to quit talking about the debate debacles from a week ago and start reporting substance material writing actual journalism stories. Watching the PBS show tonight gives new meaning to God Bless America. It won’t be a good or safe America if a convicted felon wins. How can his followers want stricter laws on criminals yet support one themselves. Kathy

A wonderful event, love the cake walk!!! Then the Presidents' Dilemmas. Plural, one for the one in office and one for the one who wants the position !!! And in the UK, a landslide victory for labour, I sometimes find it very hard to understand what is happening all over the world.Down here, we do seem to miss a lot of the drama.

What a fun day! The singer has a beautiful voice. Those cakes look good enough to eat!

I have plenty of feelings/opinions on our government, our country, the candidates and the media. I'm in a funk.
