#2044 THE RAIN IS SUPPOSED TO STOP BY MIDNIGHT...

It's so dark on these rainy mornings I don't wake up as early as I would on a bright day. It took me much longer to do chores as I had to brush each horse before I put on their rain sheets. Why do I do that? Because they are going to be outside all day...it was raining, windy and very cold. 4 out of 5 are between 24 and 30 years old and they do not need to be wasting their energy trying to keep warm. Big changes in temperature can also lead to colic. (Does this help, Gayle). Lucky for me, I can put their hay under a shed roof.

The dogs sure didn't like it. After 45 minutes they went up to the kitchen door and wanted to go inside where it was warmer. Gucci was shaking.

They were most happy to be in their comfort zone.

Yesterday I started moving chairs and tables into the indoor. Today when Gary got back from coffee, we moved the rest of the stuff inside.

Tomorrow I will wash everything off and cover the tables...do a little decorating...find something to use for centerpieces etc. I have a couple of rows of twinky lights that go down the center of the barn above the trusses. They give it a more festive look. Years ago, I had them all around the arena at the top of the kickboards...it looked like a night club. We have had many different bands here in the past...rock, country, Irish and more. Because it is a wooden barn, regardless of the temperature it stays pretty warm in there.

After lunch I did some errands....bank, haircut, Wegmans.

It was still raining and the temperature was 44.

Those yellow leaves were everywhere.

Lots of traffic with all the detours. Didn't get home until 5. Started dinner and went out to do chores.

GLOOMY. It's a good thing there was a nice fire going in the kitchen!

And tonight's dinner was...

Baked sweet potatoes...

Leftover coleslaw....

And YUMMMMMM....BBQed boneless country ribs with onions, carrots and red peppers.

One of my favorite meals. I make some nasty BBQ sauce.

And now, a very hot shower. Have to get out to that fire. Night all.

Looks like you are in the same weather pattern only it never got above 37 degrees today and there was snow mixed with the rain. Tomorrow it's SUPPOSED to hit 50 and be partly sunny. I bashed myself up pretty good tonight but I hope to still get out tomorrow.

It's cold and rainy here today too. Your food looks delicious. The party looks like it's going to be lots of fun and I love the two pups lying on the quilt, now that's cozy.

What a lovely dinner you had Lori! And I love your doggies (horses too), but it must be hard to be so short and close to the sopping wet ground.
Thanks for dropping by the blog, I've stopped by yours too, and really enjoyed it! I'll be back...wouldn't it be great if we all lived close enough for coffee...or a barn dance at your place?

I would love to come over but since you are so far away I guess I will just have to celebrate with you through your blog.....and since you do that so well it's almost as good as being there. Have a wonderful party.

It totally makes sense about the blankets. Saving their energy is also going to save money in feed. I did have to research colic in horses though. I have so much to learn. Sitting by a fire sounds wonderful. I wish we had one. I actually sat in front of my propane oven the other day with my eyes closed pretending. lol Silly me. Enjoy the couch time when you get it!
