AND NOW FOR TODAY'S NEWS....

A frosty morning, but things got better as the day went on.

It looks like we are going to have a milder week and I'll be able to get rid of these blankets for a few days.

Berlin....

A member of the Museum Committee requested some pictures of our barns, so I took a few shots this morning. Both are over 100 years old.

I finally got outside this afternoon and dragged the outdoor arena. Needed some sunshine on my face.

Thought I would try something different for dinner. I was watching "The Barefoot Contessa" on the Food Channel and she made a very interesting (French) salad. Some of the ingredients had to be improvised...I used what I had on hand.

First I peeled a butternut squash and cubed it. Put it in a bowl and added a little oil, maple syrup, salt and pepper. Tossed it and put it on a pan in the oven at 450 degrees for 20 minutes.

In the meantime I started on the salad dressing. 3/4 cup of cider, 2 tablespoons of cider vinegar and 3 tablespoons of sweet onion (supposed to be shallots). Reduced it and added 2 tablespoons of mustard (1 dijon and 1 honey mustard). Wisked it together and let it sit.

Then, I cracked some of our own walnuts and toasted them. During the last 5 minutes the squash was in the oven I added 3 tablespoons of yellow raisins (supposed to be cranberries, but I didn't have any).

Heated up last nights Leek soup...put the salad together...topped it with some Romano cheese (supposed to be 1/2 cup of grated parmasean) and the warm dressing. Very good!

Then it was time to go out and do chores. Of course I started by picking the pastures (with Phoebe and Gucci).

Beautiful skies again.

PC wanted to roll and the dogs would not leave him alone.

Eventually he got up.

Gucci would have jumped right on him...

The picture below is of two friends. Between the paintings is Ruth, and the man on the right is her husband, Bing Rath. He is a self taught painter and we have known him for as long as I can remember. (He used to be our attorney). This past weekend he had a chance to show off his work and it is something that I'd like to share with you.

He usually paints scenes from his home town, Hamlin, New York.

Below is another picture of Karen and Panache. She sent me many photographs and lots of information about all the exciting experiences she has had doing demonstration rides (many of which were at Kentucky Horse Park). It was such fun meeting her! Next Sunday she will come out and ride Abbe. I'm working on a piece that I will post soon.

Got to go now. It's time for dancing. Night all.

This is beautiful! We always hoped that these small row-houses would exist for a lot more time but the way the population in Mumbai is increasing with so many people pouring in for Job opportunities and settling down here, it doesn't look possible. Also thanks for sharing that recipi! The dish looks yummy! Lovely pictures from during the day. I hope each day remains as calm, peaceful and beautiful.....

The barns are much larger than I thought! That's a lot of work to maintain. I really like Bing's artwork. His painting really draws you in.
