A little sunshine this morning, but a pretty grey day and now it's raining again. Fortunately it was nice enough for the crew to get our water hooked up and they did it in 3 hours!
North East Water arrived a little before 10 and they immediately dug a hole between the outdoor turn off and the basement wall. Then, they drilled a hole from the inside going out.
In the meantime, our friend Doug B. stopped by to chat with Gary (and make sure they were doing the job right). When he retired from well drilling he sold his equipment to this company and still stays in touch. He is an absolute wizard when it comes to this stuff.
They hit a big rock on the other side of the wall, but that was no problem. At least it was not bedrock and they were easily able to move it.
The hole was at least 6 feet deep.
They attached the water line to the turn off...( 5 or 6 feet down)
and reconnected everything inside before filling in the hole.
They also had to check on the dug well we filled in and removed the cap from the drilled well.
I think we should mark this spot somehow just in case a well needs to be opened some day.
We took the rest of the afternoon off.
Almost the entire pond in the back pasture was gone this morning. Too bad it's raining again.
Dick R. needed some manure for his raised beds and presented Gary with a bottle of one of the wines he makes in exchange. Such a deal!
Our boulder sculpture will be a great reminder of all the work that went in to getting water.
Pancakes and sausage for dinner. So good.

Maybe the rock sculpture needs a water related title. We have always been so thankful for town water after using ours from a deep well bore, it had too much of some mineral and had to go through a salt refinery.Very complicated process but the end result was great . That line is very deep, hope you get good pressure in all the taps, and specially the shower.
I doubt we will ever have water out here that is public. But that is awesome! Is it a metered thing? It has been so long since I had public water.
When I lived in the suburbs we had a monthly water bill. Now we have a shared well with the neighbors and that works out well.
