Most of the day was nice and cool, but this afternoon the temperature went up and it got muggy.
After chores I picked over a peck of cucumbers and decided to make some refrigerator pickles. Gave the rest to a friend who has a food truck. Nice, organic cukes.
At 11:45 Janet had a pair of farriers come to check out Ronins feet. They came highly recommended and I was totally impressed. In fact, Karen used them for Angel and Elliott. I learned a lot just listening, as they are very informed and have a great way with horses. I have never had a farrier go into such thorough explanations....they really study their craft and it benefits the horses.
They were here for almost 3 hours and Ronin was such a good boy.
At 3 I headed into Brockport for a massage appointment. Had not been there since way before my pacemaker surgery and now I feel totally comfortable. Made my day.
The ponies were happy to get inside.
We had open faced sloppy Joes and coleslaw for dinner. Always very satisfying.

And I thought you might have some new Salomon, Skechers, or even Doc Martins, Blundstones for outdoors, or sheepskin ones for the evenings. How silly, I should have known that the ponies would be first in the queue!!!
I bet Ronin's new shoes are comfortable, hand fitted of course. That face mask netting he wears must be a blessing for him keeping flies away.
We used to have farriers that traveled in a pair. Very expensive! They also charged a road fee by the mile, but if you think about it, half their day can be travel. One specialized in trimming and the other specialized in fitting shoes. On the quieter horses they would work on two legs at a time, opposing diagonals. Turns out a horse can stand perfectly well with diagonal legs off the ground.
Was it 3 hours for 1 horse? That had to cost a lot, but sometimes it's worth it. The humidity was terrible yesterday, then we had a huge thunder storm overnight. Not much rain.
Sandra, yes 1 horse. It was their first visit and they were working on a plan to improve his feet before they started working on them. He was so patient, considering the length of time. Janet had a concern today and they both returned to make sure everything was alright...no charge.
SmartAlex, These farriers are married and always work as a pair. She trims and he fits the shoes. I could not be more impressed. They did not work on two legs at a time. That would be something to see.
Terra, yep. the mask is to keep the flies away from his eyes and ears.
