WHOOPPPPPEEEEE...

No snow today...no shoveling...no nothin.  After chores I went out to lunch with a friend (a Greek Panini with a side of mixed greens....big yum).  Got back to the farm and started preparing for tomorrow night.  I need to be able to seat 28, so I had to put leaves in the antique table we have in the library...When I get my eggs from the woman across the street, I will be ready to make a gigantic batch of Swedish meatballs.  Last night I made 3/4 gallon of pickled beets....Tomorrow I will do a ham and make some rice pudding (Esther, our Swedish friend from Niger would love it...so would the rest of you).  We are going to have quite a feast...starting with some appetizers. Then we will move on to a smorgie of things like sweet and sour meatballs, waldorf salad, mixed greens with pears and crumbly blue, a raspberry ring, deviled eggs, scalloped potatoes, cheezy potatoes, mac and cheese with ham, banana cream pie, another pie, another pie and cheese cake squares.  Of course there will be many wines and other good things.  I believe it will be delicious...don't you love pot lucks?  You know we will eat whatever is here....
By the way, I have to give some thanks and credit to Darrin Kenny, who has been here twice to snow blow the rest of the property after the plows left.  We have a six foot wide path to the indoor and the same to the manure pile.  To Sue in Colorado...nope, we don't have a tractor or a plow or a snow blower.  Unless it is really bad out there, we have shoveled this driveway for 28 years.
Even when we have had up to 10 horses, my tools are picks and a wheelbarrow.  If you have been reading this Journal for any length of time, you know that all the manure goes into our gardens....particularly where Gary grows all the garlic.  That's all folks.

Sounds like it's going to be a great party. Just reading about the food makes me drool.

We have 28 head and no tractor. It can be done.....but it's hard sometimes.

What a fun party! Have a fabulous time!

I'm in awe that you hand dig your driveway-from the looks of it you get a lot of snow!

I, too, use a pick/wheelbarrow for our paddocks and arena...we just use the plow/tractor for the driveway. The snowblower...we'll see...it will probably be used to create good, safe play areas for the older Yahoos :)

Be careful, Lori...you are becoming my hero :)

Merry Christmas!
Suebeedoo and the gang!
