Hail. Hail. The Gang's All Here!

Not quite as hot today, but the humidity was killing me.

Gary and I got the house organized for our company.  Ariana (our granddaughter) and Kurt were coming here this afternoon from Toronto.  I picked some flowers for the tables...

and then started on dinner.  Yesterday I made baked beans...this morning (after a quick trip to Wegmans) I put together a pasta salad and cut up some watermelon.

The traffic in Canada was crazy and Ariana and Kurt got here after four.

Made a pitcher of lemonade for starters.

At 5:30 Jenny and Scott arrived, followed by Heather and Coop.  Gary grilled the chicken and

we chatted for awhile.

Jenny made a Cesare salad.

It was quite a feast.

Finn has been working at Camp Abilities all week (at SUNY Brockport) but was able to join us for dinner.  

We had strawberry shortcake before he had to get back for his last night there.

Kurt and Ariana were in Toronto for the Croatia/Portugal World Cup match and were part of the parade as they went to the stadium.  Had to be pretty cool!

After many long and fun discussions we were all ready for a nap.  So fun spending this time together.

Little Wonder was ready to sack out too.

An Early Start

After I finished posting last night, Jenny and Scott stopped up and we went over to his house to see the progress that has been made.  Scott built this house 28 years ago and he and Jenny plan to move into it sometime this fall.  First, they are redoing almost everything,

Little Wonder went with us and there was a torrential down pour when we got there.

A huge addition is going on the East side of the house.   A two car garage topped with a great room.

So far, he has turned two bedrooms into a walkin closet and bedroom.

The only thing left is the trim work.

Next....he will put a bathroom and two bedrooms upstairs.  After that...windows, siding and a new roof.  He is one very talented guy.   Fortunately, they have hired someone to do the addition.  Jenny is going for a Scandinavian look on the inside.

When we got back to the farm, the sky was gorgeous.

OK.  What about today?

When I let Little Wonder out this morning, there was a nice breeze and even tho it was 80 degrees it felt like something I could tolerate. Started mowing the lawn by 8:30.  Our first sunflower appeared.....

and there were many new blossoms everywhere.

By 10:15 I was back in the house in need of a shower.

Bridge at the Library.  Somehow my partner and I tied for 2nd after having totally crap hands.

On my way home....

the temperature was 94.

As expected, LW was not too excited about being outside.

Hot dogs and beans for dinner.  Not in the mood for cooking.

In the Cooker

The west side of our house gets full sun all afternoon and right now it is almost 85 degrees here in the library (6:30pm).  We have French doors and can close off this part of the house to keep the kitchen cool with a window air conditioner and fans.  I can't stand it!!!  I have a fan on me now and turned on the window air conditioner in the downstairs bedroom.  No more open windows.

I'm trying to convince Little Wonder to stay on the bed so he can cool off.

This morning it was about 75 in the kitchen, and I got it down to 71.  Much cooler than it was outside....a balmy 83 degrees by 8am.

I did four things today.   #1 Picked 3 beets, lettuce and grabbed one onion.

#2 Made a jar of pickled beets.

 

#3 Grabbed LW and drove to Brockport to do some banking (drive thru).  Of course he loved the ride and stayed in the front seat where the air was blasting out on him.

On the way home, this was the temperature.  How many more days of this?

#4. I made breakfast for dinner.
