We Made Some History In The Town Of Sweden Today!

This afternoon a swearing in ceremony was held at The Center with 120 people in

attendance to witness this very rare happening. 

As the story goes (that you have read many times), about 10 months ago the three of us began our run for office in the Town of Sweden.  Annie ran for supervisor...Mary and I ran for Town Board.  We did our homework, the team was strong, there was a lot of volunteer and financial support and the Town was ready for a change.  It was time (after 150 years) for a two party government.

Mary and I won our seats and Annie lost to a 22 year veteran by 70 votes.

All three of us were first time candidates.  Of course we were not happy about Annie's loss, but

it all turned around when a trustee for the Village Board resigned.  The Mayor appointed Annie to fill the position so she ended up in office after all.

It was suggested that we have a ceremonial swearing in and once we knew Annie was official, we made arrangements to have all of  us sworn in at the same time.

Our first choice to do the honors was Congresswoman Louise Slaughter!

She had attended our fundraiser in September and we were thrilled that she would

swear us in today.

Not only that, the following politicos were also there:

Our supporters were not just democrats, we were happy to have all parties helping us in one way or another.  They put up our signs, gave us money, volunteered and wore our t-shirts.

Rich Fenton hosted the event for us.  He is a retired College Professor and a past member of the Town Board.  He had our backs the entire time.

The three of us were introduced and had a chance to say a few words before we were sworn in by Louise.  She had the opportunity to make some remarks and we sure had some laughs over her stories.  Such a charmer.

 We decided to serve homemade pies and coffee to add to the feel of a good old fashioned town get together.   Adam, Jen, Gary and Linda worked on getting all 18

of them sliced and ready to serve.

 Jenny asked Finn to take a picture of the pies and he thought she meant each one!

There was enough time for schmoozing before we had to leave.

happy to have a chance to catch up.

 Needless to say, our family had to really dig in during all this campaigning.  Always there to help.

 We had a good press coverage today.  Channel 10 News, Time Warner, The Democrat and Chronicle and Suburban News.  It will be interesting to see how the tv and newspaper reports turn out.

 Here's the bottom line...

Mary and I, on the Town Board and Annie, on the Village Board 

are looking forward to getting our respective boards to work together

in a positive and productive way that will benefit all.

 This was quite the experience and I was overwhelmed by the support and energy that surrounded us today.  Thank You, Thank You and Thank You!

Where Is The Vicks?

I feel like crapola and we have the swearing in ceremony tomorrow!

No sunshine and not very many photos today.

 This morning, walking in the front paddock was like walking on big frozen rocks at a beach.

No wonder the horses preferred being in the pasture.

 I cleared my head with a nice hot shower and met my friend Barb (used to board her horse King Mustafa here) down at Barber's for lunch.  This is the third year we have done it and spent the entire time catching up.

 Had a very quiet afternoon and went out to tuck the girls in before dark.

 I have absolutely no energy.

 The only thing that sounded good was French toast, so that was what we had for dinner.

I just binged 3 episodes of "Homeland" and plan to be in bed by 10.

These three have the right idea.

Maybe I'll have my act together tomorrow.

Night all.

24 Hours

Last night we spent a quiet evening with Brenda and Al, grilled out steaks and had a great dinner.

We had no intention of making it until midnight and spent a lot of time laughing.

 The carrots and Brussels sprouts were from our garden (more out there) and I roasted them along with some potatoes.  The salad....romaine/apples/pears/pomegranate/Swedish nuts and Feta Cheese.  Brenda brought a chocolate pie.  Everything was delicious and we took our grand old time eating.  They left a little after 9 and we were ready for a nap.

 This morning we had a little snow.

 The front paddock is still a mess.

 At 11:30 we went over to Carol G's for a southern style brunch.

It was superb!  This breakfast shrimp dish was served over the top of creamy smooth grits.

(It was my debut in the grits department).

 We also had ham and biscuits....

 an egg/sausage/cheese casserole and fresh fruit.

 Carol sure knows her way around a kitchen.

 This is her dog Roamer...they are into agility.

 We met some new people and had a great time...so relaxing at that time of day.

Chores just before dark.

 The girls are always happy to get tucked in for the night.

Gary and I were lounging around, thinking about watching a movie....when Jenny and Scott stopped in.  We were going to turn our leftover steak into chilly cheese steak sandwiches and asked them to join us....which they did.

 Perfect.

 We also finished off the pie Brenda left here, and spent a lot of time playing the guitar, ukulele, sticks and washboard.  Scott used to be in a band so he knew what he was doing.  A very fun, off the cuff evening.

Phoebe didn't care, she just sacked out.

 Now it's back to the fire and we will see about that movie.

This past week our granddaughters were in New York City visiting their other grandparents.  While Daniela and her grandmother went to Lord and Taylor shopping, Ariana wanted to take in the ginormous New York Public Library.  She decided to do a little family research and sent us these two pictures that she found (among many others).

 and I am in this one.  Holy Moly!  It must have been about 1959 and I was in high school

looking about 12 years old.  Yuck!  How could they have allowed sororities?
