A Bloody Nose

Perfectly beautiful all day long.

This was brush pick up day and the Town crew was here at 8 sharp, just as I was going out to the barn.
I had a major shock when I fed Rebel his grain.  He was eating it, lifted his head and there was blood all over his left nostril and his lips.  I looked around his stall and found blood near his window and on the shavings.  I had no clue what happened.  Cleaned him up and turned him out....he was eating grass as usual.
I started mowing the lawn and checked on him only to find more blood dripping out of his nostril.

I managed to finish the lawn and called my most knowledgable horse pal, Andrea, to get some advice.  Even sent her photos and we decided it was time to call the vet.

In the meantime, Gary did the hand mowing,
I brought Rebel into the grooming room and more blood kept dripping out along with a huge yellow discharge that landed on the floor.  That was a clue.  Still not sure if I am right, but I think he either had a cist or something going on....maybe in a sinus....and it popped open, causing all this drainage.  I kept cleaning his nose and had a chance to speak to the vet.  The discharge changed from red to red orange to  orange and light orange...serum mixed in.  I put him in a grooming room stall and Buddy kept him company, happy to have a flake of hay.  When I first brought Rebel in, his temperature was slightly elevated and a few hours later it was a little higher.  He ended up with a dose of banamine and was turned back out.
(I have a ton of ugly photos to show the vet.  Even a video of it dripping).
He continued eating grass until it was time to get tucked in.

Gary did a lot of work on the lawn and in his raised beds this afternoon.

Back to the house around 8 and will have to check on Rebel a couple more times tonight so I can clean his nose.  I must have spent at least 6 hours with that boy today.  So tired.
Made patty melts for dinner and we just had carrots and celery on the side.  Today's activity had an impact on my appetite.  Will call the vet in the morning.

Night all.

Well I hope the vet gives you some meds or at least an answer for Rebel. In 4H we had a nose bleeder but she'd only do that when racing barrels and speed events. She had to stop doing that.

That would have me on edge. I think you may be right about it being a cyst that burst. It's always something.
