Chore duty this morning. Then I got cleaned up and went down to the Village for what ended up being a very long day.
My first stop was at Sagawa Park for the
the historic mural dedication....
"Portraits of Our Past"
which was painted by Rochester artist, Rick Muto.
The cost of the mural was covered by a grant from the
Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor and generous donations from other local groups.
As you can see,
public art
is very important
to this community.
The ceremony ended with poems by Brockport Poet Laureate, Bill Heyen.
By the time it was over, the rain had arrived and we were led over to the Welcome Center by
Mark Ketchum....the Pied Piper of Brockport.
Due to the wet weather, we ended up sitting on the stairs under the roof as well as on the porch area, which was set up with chairs.
The entertainment was started by Bill Hullfish and the Golden Eagle String Band.
Then, Mayor Blackman and local (and nationally known) artist, Helen Smagorinsky
passed out awards and certificates to the winners of the 4th grade poster contest.
At that point, the rain had stopped, but the wind started kicking up.
At 12:30 free pizza was served to all in attendance.
Lauren Leiberman (SUNY Brockport) was there with her Camp Abilities team
and many where able to try out the "Conference" bike.
"Erie Canal Sal" was telling stories from long ago.
After dragging all of our equipment over to the Welcome Center, the skies to the West were looking very black and we made arrangements for our Sunday Jam group (Brockport Buskers)
and "Thicker Than Water" to move over to A Different Path Gallery to preserve all
of our equipment. It started to rain again.
We are very fortunate that Kathy Weston is so community minded and let us do this with only a few minute's notice.

Seeing that I was performing, I have no videos of our group. Hopefully I can get them from someone else. It was a total blast and we sounded darn good.
Roseanne (also part of our group) and her brother ended the day.
Get it???? Thicker Than Water.....
Another extremely successful Low Bridge High Water celebration.
By the time I got home at 4:30 I was ready for a very long nap.
Night all.

What an amazing event for everyone, young to older, and awards as well.
Looks like a great day even with the rain. The mural is beautiful.
I am tired just looking at all that you have done.
I loved the mural and hearing all your local musicians!
