THIS, THAT AND THE OTHER THING....

Gary decided to be practical and go for the Forrester.  28-34 miles per gallon versus half that with the truck.  That means no more horse trailer.
Went out to do chores a little early.  The horses were waiting.  Berlin is above.
Abbe looks like she is in a barn in europe.
...the rain is finally going to make it.
We are now into daisy blossoms along with the iris.
I'm starting to cut them for the house.
The robins could not wait for me to clean out the bird bath.
The rain did arrive and the lawn and gardens got a good drink.
The spinach went nuts and now the leaves are starting to form.
More of the yellow roses are blossoming.
This is the door to our kitchen....it gets quite a workout...as you can see all the gardens are filling in and growing up.  Around 3:30 I had to put the horses in the barn because there was so much thunder and lightning. 
There were deep puddles in the driveway and I had to create a trench next to the barn so the water would go where it was supposed to.

About my horse trailer.  It is for sale.  A 16 foot stock with a tack area in the front.  It has clear plastic "curtains" (like a boat would have) that I can snap down over the open slats when it is cold, or velcro up when it is warm.  I will really miss it, but Gary should be able to get whatever vehicle he wants after what he has been through.

After the horses ate their grain tonight, I let them go back out as it was barely sprinkling.  Joe, Pony and PC immediately headed for the grass.  This is the view from Joe's back window.
Apparently, Winnie thought rolling in the mud was a good idea.  Don't you just love all the green?

I have not been very good about giving you a proper welcome...it's been topsy turvy around here.

LET'S SEE NOW....WHAT DID I DO TODAY?

Good Morning everyone!
A bit muggy.....
Where's the chipmunk?  I can hear it!!!

Chores as usual...Gary actually came out to help.  We had to hurry, as the chorus rehearsal started at 10, followed by a pizza lunch.  On Friday we will have our performance.  It feels like we have bitten off more than we can chew this year...so many songs and not enough time to really do them all justice.  We shall see.  Met with the Association Treasurer at the Senior Center for a few minutes and then rushed home to get the horses all set with the farrier.
John arrived shortly after 1 with Duncan...who will have his first birthday tomorrow.
Joe was done first...his big feet are enough to exhaust the farrier!
Then he did Pony and Berlin.  Next Wednesday the other three will be done.  Fine with me

After he left, Gary and I went down to look at a number of cars.  Trucks, Vans, SUVs etc.  We will probably have to get something used, as they will not give us the full replacement value of our truck.  That stinks!  Gary was not doing one thing wrong...his truck gets totaled, has an extremely traumatic experience and it will end up costing us money to get another vehicle. There is definately something wrong with this picture.  This Forrester is one of the cars we looked at.  It gets great mileage compared to a truck...almost double.
Finn had a T ball game tonight.  Kevin was not feeling well and Jenny was working late so Grampa went down to the Town Park to offer some family support.
I went out and picked pastures and took a few photos.  This is what our garlic looks like now.

Sort of like the tops of gigantic pineapples.  Notice how tall the wheat is in the field.
Do any of you have this plant?  Comfrey????  It is stronger than any weed and gets to be gigantic.  Andrea gave it to us many years ago and it just keeps getting bigger.  It's leaves can be used to make a poultice for your horse.

Below are all the plants waiting to be put in the ground.  Gary is really going to be getting a LOT of physical therapy.

CHRISTINA'S WORLD....ON LOCATION IN ALBION, NEW YORK

A couple of weeks ago we went to a gallery opening in Albion and stopped for a quick bite at the COFFEE HOUSE.  Roger and Tina made a return trip and took the photos below.  They took a tour of the Pratt Opera House (which is on the third floor of the Coffee House).  From 1882-1931 every manner of play was performed there.

I keep getting up early, but don't go out to the barn before 7.  Finished chores quickly and went into the house to look up some information on my computer regarding harness parts.  

At 10:30 my class arrived....here is what they are working on....

Sandy is getting close to finishing a pencil drawing of her friend's horse...
Sue is still working on her pointilism drawing.  You can really start to see it now.
Tina has started adding color to her drawing of Buster, with pastel pencils.
And Connie is working on a pencil drawing of a barn.

I could not ask for better students.  Our class is always comfortable with lots of conversation.

Several of us are horse people and today Connie (the only non horse person) got an earful.
When I walked out to the kitchen, I saw this beautiful plant sitting on the table.
Our good friend Tina (also my student) brought this Hibiscus as a gift for Gary.  She and her husband Roger are such thoughtful people.  

By the way, Gary is doing better each day.  I think it will take longer to heal emotionally than physically.  He continues to get visitors and phone calls.  Today his friend Tony picked him up and took him out to lunch in Rochester....very nice!

Meanwhile back at the computer, I went online looking for harness parts and found this on eBay.  An entire harness for less than the price of the two parts I needed to buy.  I took the plunge and it was my first experience.  Did not seem too difficult at all.  Let's see what it really looks like when it gets here.  I'm very impressed with the way it looks in the photograph and for $135 I think it was a steal.
This morning my PT Cruiser went in for new tie rods... At 2pm Gary dropped me off to get a haircut and then over to pick it up.  On the way home I went to Wegmans, Tractor Supply and Spurr's Car Dealership.  I wanted to price trucks in order to know what we are talking about with the Insurance Company.  The Sierra below is a possibility.  Trucks get such lousy mileage, Gary just might change his mind.

About the rain....it sprinkled, but we didn't get enough to sneeze at.  We really need it.

I went out a little late to do chores as Gary had more visitors.  It was very grey and chilly.  


When I got in, he had started a fire and it felt so good.  Simple dinner tonight...I picked up a 

roasted chicken at Wegmans (cheating) and made a big salad with mixed greens, apples, pears, strawberries, kiwi and onion...topped with crumbly blue and wine blush dressing.  I should have taken a picture.  Now, I am going to go out and put the ponies in for the night.
