Fire and Ice

Not too bad today.  We had 4+ inches of fresh snow and it was very light.  The first thing I did was shovel a path to the front paddock.

After chores Gary dropped me off at Wegmans and went for some coffee.  When he picked me up we drove down to the Morgan Manning House so I could check out the damage.  Jenny is on the Board of Directors for this landmark and there was supposed to be a Board meeting last night.,  Two people got there early, could smell something and called 911.  Fire trucks were passing Jenny as she was driving to the meeting and she was shocked to see them going to the house.  It started in the basement and went up to the second floor causing a lot of damage.  There must have been 6 or 7 different fire departments trying to put out the fire (took 4 or 5 hours).
This building has meant a lot to our community for decades and so many people have helped to restore it from a fire that took place in 1964, killing the woman who lived there.  It's full of antiques, beautiful rugs and a lot of paintings.  Hundreds of people go there for the 4th of July celebration, and it has been the site for weddings, concerts, theater, lectures, meetings and more. Our school district sends elementary school children there to learn about it's history.

It looks like it can be saved, and they were surprised at what the interior looked like afterwards.  The rooms on the north side were spared and those on the south side had much more damage.  Also, all of the documents that were in the office were spared.  I have posted so many photos of events being held here.  Most recently, Candlelight Christmas.

I watched a little of the confirmation hearing late morning.  The candidate for Attorney General was really trying to play the Democrats.  Would not say that Biden won the election and after saying that her position was not political....she made it political.  These candidates are so scripted and get canned questions from the Republicans.  We shall see if their BS about following the constitution will fly.

I was a slug this afternoon and continued binging my latest Netflix series.  It I did not have these horses to take care of, I would be supremely lazy.

Got Rebel and Buddy tucked in before dark.

Night all.

So sorry to read about the fire! I hope no one was hurt and that the mansion can be restored again.

I hope Morgan Manning can be rebuilt. What a shock when we learned it was on fire. Such a landmark and staple in our community for many events. We went back and looked at many of your old posts showing pictures of the inside at events you shared. Kathy
