Gary's Home

We have had weather advisories for days and they were right on. It was in the 40s this morning, with lots of high winds that started about 4am.  Tonight it's in the low 20s and feels like -1.  So far, our highest wind has been 54mph.  In Buffalo they hit 79 and the Great Lakes are rolling big time.

Rebel and Buddy had breakfast behind the grooming room so they could have a wind break.  At that time it was not snowing.

After chores I got a call from Gary and he said he was being kicked out of the hospital so around 11 I drove in to Rochester and picked him up.  The wind on the expressway was very strong.  On the way home, the sun appeared for a short time, then it started to snow.  Where were these two clowns?  Out in the open getting the full impact of the wind.
Little Wonder rode shotgun with me when we picked up Gary.
We got home before 1and by 1:30, it was getting so bad out, I put the boys in their suites.
Took off their sheets, gave the a quick brush and put on their heavier blankets.

Gary went to bed and my LW and I hung out by the fire.
On the way home from the hospital, we had stopped at Wegmans for some food Gary can eat and also needed pick up a prescription.  It was not ready and he wanted to go home so I went back later.  By then it looked like a blizzard out there.

Another great sky. at chore time.

I did not even turn them out....just picked their stalls and reset their dinner.  Gary actually came out and did the water.

Jenny, Scott and the boys were supposed to come for dinner, but we postponed it until tomorrow night.  Gary went for a ham salad sandwich and I had a bagel with eggs and OJ.  Off duty.
The wind is supposed to slow down by 1am, but I expect we will get more snow.  I shoveled much of the driveway after chores and fortunately the snow was very light.
Night all.

Red Sky in Morning, Skoog Farm Take Warning

We are living in an area that is going to get hit with some serious weather starting a few hours from now.  It's already raining like crazy and the snow is like mush.  We may have winds up to  65mph tomorrow and the waves on Lake Ontario could be 25 feet high.  That's serious.

So we had this sky for just a few minutes this morning.

It faded quickly and turned to a dull grey.
Right then I should have know it was going to be a weird day.

After chores Little Wonder and I drove down to Country Max for grain.  If the weather gets bad and we lose power or deliveries can't be made, I wanted to make sure the horses have food.

Gary said he was having pain in his abdomen and I made him some chicken soup when we got back to the farm.  He also had some ginger ale preceded by Tums.  Nothing helped and this was beyond a bug.  So by 1pm we were at the Strong West Emergency Room.
We were released around 6:30 and he was sent to Strong Hospital for further tests.  Jenny and Scott took care of the horses, LW and Sid while we were gone.  Of course the boys chose to stand in the rain and Jenny took off their blankets to put on some dry ones.
They drove Gary into Strong (Rochester) and I'm holding down the fort.  He will be going on some strong antibiotics when he finally gets into a room.  Very busy there.
After they left, I had to close up the indoor and both run-ins and got soaked on the way.  Gave the boys a fresh flake of hay and some carrots before going back to the house.

Little Wonder was waiting for me on the porch so he would not get too wet.
I'm trying to get the blankets dry tonight as they are going to need them by tomorrow night.  We are going to have a high near 50 and then in the 20s for a week.  They are predicting power losses and trees coming down. Not looking forward to that and I will be tested, keeping the fire going, making sure the horses have water and emptying the wheel barrow.  Not to mention the driveway....if we get a lot of snow!!!!  Yikes. I'm sure Finn and Coop will help me.
Waiting to get more details from Gary.
Night all.

The Long Ride Home

This morning the snow felt like frozen sugar.

We all were up early as Steph and Bandit left for Kansas City by 7:30.  When she was almost out of Ohio, the temperature was 50 degrees.  Here we were stuck in the low 20s.

It's always hard for me to say goodbye, regardless of how old our kids are.

Out for chores around 8 and forgot my phone, so no photos until lunch time when I left for Brockport to run a couple of errands.  Got some very nice bedding.  Did a lot of laundry and a few things around the house.  Have to get things prepared for the next group coming in.

The house was very quiet and Sidney was not feeling any pressure from having another dog in the house.
It's so dark on these dreary days when I go out for evening chores.

Here's another perspective.....5:15.
No green light showing.
Dinner....whatever we could find in the frig,

Night all.
