How Did We Survive Last Winter?

This  year we had a two and a half month grace period and now that the REALLY cold weather has arrived it seems monumental.
 Another eeeerrrriieee sunrise,
with the windchill....-25 degrees.
Gary and I did some shoveling before Karen arrived as our snow blower would not start.

We put the horses in the indoor with some hay while we cleaned stalls.

They also had about half an hour outside before we tucked them back in.

Can you see the snow swirling around in the field?

Right after chores I took Gary's van down to Country Max to buy 20 bales of my favorite shavings as there was a great sale going on.  It was snowing and crazy out, but I wanted to get it over with.

Needless to say, this was a great day to be near the fire.
I binged on the latest Homeland DVD, made some soup and a loaf of bread.
Karen came up around 3, turned the girls out and cleaned the stalls.  I went out at 4:30
to do chores and by then they were happy to get back in.

I have never heard of a bread made this way.  The ingredients were a gift in exchange for me drumming with the Spencerport Chorus for their Christmas Concert and I finally got around to doing something about it.  Beer bread. Do you see all those bubbles?  That is from the butter you add to it three times while it is baking.
It cools for 30 minutes and voila!  The butter gets absorbed and the outside of the bread gets very crispy.
Sidney kept me company all day.  He only asked to go out long enough for potty breaks and was right back at the door telling me he was ready to come in.
Jenny was soloing tonight and came up for leftovers.  She brought mashed potatoes and I made coleslaw with pineapple, carrots, apples and craisins.
The bread was delicious.
Gucci spent much of the day sacked out on our bed.

One more day of this weather, then it should hit 30.
I will appreciate it very much.
Night all.

PS
Check out this mural painted on stairs.

We've been asking ourselves that all day. How DID we survive last winter? No wonder I still haven't recovered from it:) Stay warm.

I feel like we're getting clobbered with the cold, until I see you and others are really feeling this arctic blast much more than we are. Stay warm, and have another piece of that delicious bread!

Cool mural.
We had those wicked winds yesterday and when I drove to town and back it was a white out on the ridge tops.
Thank goodness for us being in a 'bowl'. The cold blew over us.
-12 this morning and up to 10 today, so not so bad.
Hope you stay warm!
