Dagnabit!

It's snowing again!

Now I am really going to have to post some flowers.

It was another grey morning and the paddock WAS totally free of snow.  (However, we still had piles of it along the driveway).

 Seymour loves to crawl in the middle of the piles of hay, which does not make Angel very happy.

 I went on a real mission when the chores were finished to see if I could find ANY signs of spring.

This was it.

 Had to pick up some grain and ran a couple of errands.  When I got back Karen was riding Angel with Maggie and Abbe in the audience.

This afternoon I caught up with some friends on the phone and watched a French movie.  L A Z Y.

Before 5 it started to rain so I tucked the girls in early.

 It was sleeting on my way back to the house and before dinner it started to SNOW!!!!

Crapola!

 Dinner was good...

 and so was the fire.

Sidney is taking a break from sleeping in the barn all day and I will be joining him shortly.

 Night all.

Temporary Relief

Cold, grey, a little rain, more grey, mid 50s, windy and headed down to 30 tonight.

We are approaching mud and the snow banks shrunk by half.

You know what that means.

 Could not resist having some flowers in the house for the history club meeting today.

 It was a very dull start to the day.

 Once again, the girls ended up leaving the hay and went out to the pasture

 for awhile.  They are taking great pleasure in leaving big hoof prints everywhere.  The other pasture is closed off until further notice.

 It was the first day I could leave the front door by Maggie's stall open so the warmer air could heat up the barn.

Spent the rest of the morning cleaning the downstairs and was ready when everyone arrived at 2 for the meeting.  This club was organized in 1897 and has been going strong ever since.  I am a newbie as of last fall and was interested in joining after hearing about how it all works.  They started out with each member presenting a report on all most every major country and since 1929 have included such diverse subjects as:  The Ocean, Modern Biography, Colonization, Antiques, Religions of the World, I Love a Mystery and Medicine in the Last 100 years.  My interest was peaked when some friends started talking about what they were working on.  Women in Politics, American History in Musical Theatre, Art Through the Ages and this year....Her Stories.  Some of the ideas people came up with were incredible.  So today, two people presented and we were left wanting to know more.  Before they started, we had cheesecake, coffee, tea, chocolates, nuts and grapes...  Very proper!
              

Everything was cleaned up by 4:30 and I went out to do chores around 6.  The temperature had dropped quite a bit and it was very windy.

 There were quite a few geese out in the pasture.

 Tucked the girls in and was very happy to see that more of the lawn was showing.  Tomorrow I will have to look for some signs of spring in the gardens.

 Dinner was simple.  Homemade Minestrone Soup and Cheddar Cheese.  After having cheesecake in the afternoon, that was enough.

It's supposed to be back in the 30s by morning and I'll take it, as long as it does not snow.

Random 5 Friday

Simple Pleasures

1.  When I retired, the thing I appreciated the most was not having to hurry in the morning.  The last 13 years of my career were spent teaching Art in the High School, and that meant getting up at 5am so I could feed the horses and clean their stalls , leaving enough time to grab a shower and get to school by 7:30.  (at least 7 to 9 horses)

 2.  Back in those days, I never had a chance to see the sunrise during the week.  Maybe that is why I have taken thousands of pictures since starting my Journal 7 years ago.

 3.  My camera is always with me and it is not unusual to go outside in my pajamas to catch moon shots (or sunrises or whatever).  This past 4th of July I had them on when I went down to take pictures of the fireworks.  Fortunately it was dark and I did not have to get out of my car.

 4.  Some are afraid to retire because they don't know what they would do with all that time.  Believe me, most of the people I know who are no longer working, are busier than they were before.

I teach art on Tuesdays here at the farm.  My husband and I participate in a chorus on Wednesdays.  One Thursday a month I play duplicate bridge.  Two Fridays a month I meet with a history club (20 people will be here today at 1:30....my turn to host).  Each Saturday I go to African Drumming at the college from 1-4.  Off and on I work on a couple of committees for the promotion of the arts in our community.  I post in my Journal everyday and have not missed one since I started.  On top of that, I have met hundreds of people on line and 7 in person.  Of course, my animals are still a very big part of my life.  And that's not all.....

 5.  Many of you already know that my favorite form of entertainment is inviting friends over for dinner.  I love to cook.  Stop in if you are in the neighborhood.

We are surrounded by so much beauty...you just have to open your eyes and take advantage of every minute.
