It was cool and raining so the Rebel and Buddy wore their sheets today.
Little Wonder got wet and looked pretty sad....
Our plan was a spaghetti dinner for 60, sponsored by the Sweden Democratic Committee to bring our community together while encouraging several candidates who are running for office. There were four of us preparing everything and we had many volunteers who helped with serving and clean up. The room looked great and we got to work.
Judy Waldock, part of our 4 person committee, was all business and kept the kitchen running smoothly.
I had just met Kim Underwood at a meeting a couple months ago and she is one hard worker.... so community minded. Always looking out for the other guy. Tonight we sent her home with all kinds of food that she was taking to a woman and her 5 children that would appreciate it. Thoughtful.
We made sauce, got the veggies all set for the salad. Put salad dressing in little cups. Started heating up the pots to make the spaghetti......blah blah blah. You know the drill.
Our first seating was at 4, then one at 5 and one at 6. It was a nice pace and we got in our groove.
This is Joann Sharp. She is running for Town Court and moved here from Georgia, where she spent 28 years as an attorney. How many times do our local judges happen to be attorneys? So glad to have met her! She knows her business and would be a major, very knowledgable, asset to our community. Not only that, she was very helpful on the spaghetti committee.
We had one pal who showed up for a to go dinner.... Skip, my bridge buddy.
We had several candidates there.
One, was Tonia Ettinger, candidate for Monroe County Family Court. She was more than happy to meet our friends and served a few dinners.
Many of the usual suspects were there, enjoying each others company.
Christine and Rory Schnurr arrived early to help us get ready. Rory (an attorney in Rochester) is a candidate for the Sweden Town Council and was our "master of ceremonies" when we had something to say. He's a natural!
Gary put together flowers for all of the tables.
Below....Lauren, Annie Craine and Katrina. Annie has been on the Village Board for 9 years, jammed with experience, and is running for Mayor in June.
Annie with Sara Silverstone....one of my good musical friends.
And this is Margay. She has been our mayor for the last 12 years and has brought so many positive changes and grants to our village.
What a terrific event. Well supported, delicious food and so many good conversations. Everyone in the room deeply cares about democracy and honest government.
On the way home we dropped a couple of dinners off to our friends Hanny (Hi Hanny....she reads my journal every night) and Bill (who loves spaghetti). The sun was starting to set as we pulled out of their driveway.
I was already pooped and still had to do evening chores and give Rebel his antibiotics..
Got them tucked in and
spent some time with Lisa in front of the fire. Tomorrow she has another full day of dressage lessons and will head back to Florida.
Night all.

Great to catch up Lori, what a grand event and so many helpers, delicious food, and some to share with others . Rebel, I'll catch up with your news soon, I've been out of action with a week in either our local or distant larger hospitral. Home now and all is well.
You should be tired! It is wonderful seeing all these people who look after one another. It's the way to change the world.
Yikes! That was tiring!
Oddly enough the town 10 miles away-- I call it my hometown had a spaghetti dinner last night too at our fairgrounds. Probably not like yours, but almost every weekend some church or group offers up some sort of neat meal for fund raising.
So glad you are back home! Rebel is improving after his big bloody nose incident this past week, is on antibiotics and the drainage as almost stopped. Would you please sty well?
Jenn…we have a community supportive of so many things. It’s very sad that we can’t just concentrate on that instead of worrying about what is coming next from our government.
I have cooked for large groups many times and the three women I worked with were very organized, making this event a great success.
