COLLECTION...

It's small, but I am working on it.
Things are really winding down, with all candidates going for the big push.  It won't be long...we will have a new President-Elect.  This country has to make some changes for future elections.  2 years is too long...too much money has been spent...
What if it was limited to 1 year, and all candidates had the same amount of money to spend and they were allotted the same number of tv spots.  The number of people sending in donations is astonishing... it is a strong statement about wanting some change.  BUT...when you realize that it is far more money than some countries spend in an entire year, something seems to be wrong with the picture.  At 6:30 tomorrow morning, my husband and a friend are leaving for Erie, Pennsylvania, where they will be going door to door for Obama.  Two weeks ago, our daughter and a dozen others went to do the same. Neither of them have ever done anything like this before.  So many people want to keep their political opinions private. They don't dare to put a sign on their lawns or wear a button...locally, I have heard people say "I support you, but I can't put up your sign because I will lose services."  What is that supposed to mean?  This election is one of monumental proportions, and I hope everyone who cares about this country will go out and vote.

Your buttons reminded me....I went to an auction awhile back and ended up with a box of trinkets. There was a "Perot for President" button in it. I don't collect political things, but tossed it in the back of the drawer. I just dug around and it's still there. Funny.

I do agree the amount of donations is insane. I know people want to support their canidate, but so much more could be done with that money than commericials (etc) many of us don't listen to in the first place. It would be nice to see changes...

Your right about the electoral process; it need serious re-vamping.
But it does what it's designed to do:
provide a dog-and-pony show to make you think it might not be "business as usual" when it's over.

It's too bad we don't actually get to pick the candidates we feel would be best for the job. You know, the way we would if this were a free republic?

SJ...it is good to hear from you. I am enjoying your posts about Brandy...are the CDs out?

How do you think we could pick the candidates we feel would be best for the job? Have you ever participated in government?
Everyone has their own opinion and the opportunity to make comments, but it is my experience that not too many out there are trying to really do something to improve the system. It takes real staying power, and most people are not willing to commit...they just go on with their lives and let someone else take care of it...and voila, here we are.

Thanks to Gary and your friend for going door to door! What sorts of services are your neighbors afraid they will lose?
