Cold Enough For A Fire

48 degrees today and very grey.  It was raining when I went out to the barn this morning.

The boys were not that anxious to go out....

and when they did..very frisky.

Here's a short video of the feed room.  Pretty soon it will be loaded with hay.
Around 11 I went over to ANG grocery in Churchville to pick up a few things and
spent the afternoon binging a Netflix series. Did manage to make a good dinner.  Chicken parm with fettuccini and a salad made with spinach from our garden.
So good.
Around noon we had started a fire in the kitchen as the temperature in the house was 60.  Too cold for me,
Sidney and Little Wonder waited patiently to go out to the barn for evening chores.

The boys were waiting.

The roses on this bush are starting to bloom...so many buds.  It was here when we moved in in 1981 and is still going strong.  Jenny has now planted them at her house and the bush is much bigger than ours.
Night all.

Finally

I thought it would rain today, but so far so good.

Rebel hesitated leaving his stall this morning, so

Buddy thought he would cruise down the aisle before they finally went out.

After chores I had grand intentions of cleaning the house before Bobby, Hanny and Mo came over for bridge.  We have not played together for months and were all ready!  A little before 10 a florist friend came over for some rhubarb and checked out Gary's plans for the garden tour.  She came in the house to try some of my rhubarb cake and we talked our brains out until 11:45....and I had not done one thing to get the house ready.  Vacuumed, dug out my cards, got the food organized and was still doing stuff when they arrived so no time for a shower and I wore my barn clothes (getting to be a habit).  We had a great time playing cards and jabbering....they all loved the cake.
They left at 4:30 and I was in no mood to make supper.  Did not have lunch and indulged in snacks at the bridge table.  Grapes, cheese and crackers, peanuts with yogurt covered raisins and celery to dip in creamy peanut butter.

Evening chores around 8:30.  Both horses had no masks on and after they were tucked in I rode the John Deere around the pastures and only found one of them.

Going to bed early again.
Night all.

Another Rhubarb Cake

Not a bad day.

Gary picked some rhubarb for me before he went out to the barn so I could make another (my 3rd) cake.  I'm having bridge here tomorrow and they will love it.
Most of the strawberry plants are over a foot tall and I can't wait to pick some.  It will be awhile unless it really heats up.
Gary planted more San Marzano tomatoes and eventually put the cages around them.  They get so big we need them.
Wonder thinks going in the kitchen garden is like visiting a bathroom.

At 1 pm I was down at the library for bridge.  Melba and I were in first place until the last hand.  But that's ok....being able to play the game is the most important to me.
Leftover bratwurst sandwiches for dinner with chips and dill pickles.  Pretty basic but it still tasted good.
Once again, this evening was the most beautiful part of the day.

I went out late to tuck the boys in.   Buddy had no mask on again.

Night all.
