The Douible Whammy

The smoke from the Canadian fires finally arrived and the air quality index was 120....an alert was issued.

Buddy and Rebel were waiting for me when I got out to the barn.

How's this for an example of good light?
By being outside most of the night, my stall cleaning time has been cut and half.

Jessy, our farrier, arrived at 9:15.  Little Wonder loves her.

Both boys were excellent and she finished trimming by 10.
Alice arrived near 10:30 and the boys wondered why we wanted them to go back in the grooming room.

Of course both boys loved the attention and felt like silk when she was finished.  Cookies and carrots all around.
This afternoon Scott came up to get the canoe, which will be going with them to the lake for the weekend extravaganza.

He and Jenny have made a list and are checking it twice for all that has to be done.

I made a quick trip to the bank and once again....LW got to go for a ride.

Chores at 8:15.  The sky still looked smokey, but it did not smell.

It sure is getting dark earlier.
Night all.

PS
The political front is out of control.
Anything goes when the President is afraid he won't be elected if he does not rig the election.  The pot is starting to boil.  Texas is a joke and their gov has no clue about law. The Epstein situation is insane.  All who are trying to hold back information must not give two $hits about the way children were used.  Guess they don't have daughters, nieces or compassion.  Good for LA, making their case against ICE.
I want to know which cases (over 96) against T have gone to court and what the results have been.  I want to know where all the people are (and how many) who have been picked up and detained.  I asked our congressman and he had no answer as they don't know.  I want to know why the media does not call T out.  He is a dictator at this point.  He does not like black and brown people.  He continues to lie every single day.  He is mocked by the rest of the world.  I believe he will be removed by his own party so JD can take the reins with his mentor 2025.  They just let him keep acting like a fool so they can push their agenda in the background and have grounds to remove him.  Just watch.

Many Errands

The temperature went up to 83 today but the humidity was not bad. Our air quality was not normal but  I did not smell any smoke.

The boys were in the big pasture when I went out for chores.

After the stalls were cleaned I picked the indoor and went out to do some errands. We will be having a lot of company for the next three weeks and I wanted to stock up on some food.  Also got shavings at Country Max and these beautiful hydrangeas were in front of where I parked my car.

When I got back to the farm Gary went down to Brockport to pick up the Sunday Buffalo News and the Westside News.  I was very interested in this article in the latter.
A few weeks ago there was an election in the Village and the Mayor and two trustees were defeated by a large margin.  Those who won ran a campaign being very critical of a new boathouse that was built (via grants and donations) by a 501c3 Rowing Club.  It has been a huge issue and I thought this letter to the editor was terrific.  Hopefully, everything will work out and it will be a nice addition to our progressive community.  We are located on the westside of Monroe County and Rochester is on the Eastside, with many upscale suburbs....big horse farms, fancy golf courses, several universities, many great shops and restaurants....and more.  During the past administration, Brockport has improved in many ways (my opinion) through the great efforts of the mayor and her board.  I am very supportive of growing our community and think this would add to it.  Yesterday it was open to the public, and dozens of people signed up to learn how to row.  I view it as a great opportunity for our residents and students and see a regatta in our future.

Little Wonder and I took it easy much of the day.

Jenny came up this afternoon to check out the canoe and
brought along the plants she plans to put on either side of the ice and drinks that will be served (from it).
She went home with a basket full of potatoes, onions, shallots, garlic and a couple green peppers.  Last year at this time we were loaded with tomatoes....  Anyway, I forgot to give her the cabbage she was going to use for a stir fry tonight so LW and I drove it down to her house.  He loved getting another ride.
Since we had several cucumbers, I decided to make a batch of relish.

Dinner?  Bratwurst (with spicy mustard), leftover sweet and sour cabbage, with a side of noodles with butter.  I had no large noodles, so I broke up some pieces of lasagna and it worked just fine.
Went out late for chores.

That's a wrap.
Night all.

The Canoe

Can't complain.  Plenty of sunshine without the humidity.

The boys entered from the small pasture this morning.

After breakfast Rebel snuck out without his mask and headed for the apple tree.

Eventually I got it on him.
Little Wonder has been testing me.  He always goes out as soon as I get up, and when I was ready to head out to the barn at 8 he said "no deal."  As soon as Gary appeared he changed his mind and joined me.
After chores I went out to pick a couple cabbages .  For some reason Gary planted red.
The Brussels sprouts are starting to kick in.
Also found a couple green peppers and our first tomatoes
Finn came up for a short time to help put an air conditioner in one of the upstairs bedrooms.  Then,  he and Gary brought the canoe out of the shed and put it on horses so it could be cleaned.  I had already watered all the veggies and most of the flower gardens so the hose was ready.  Jenny, who is getting married on the 10th, is going to be serving drinks out of the canoe and now it's nice and clean.  We have had it for at least 3 decades and have hardly used it, so it's in mint condition.

When that was finished I decided to wash my car....after that, took it easy for awhile.  Lots of company is going to be coming and I tried to get organized on paper.  Who's arriving at the airport at what time?  How many people are staying here....what nights?  What are we going to eat?  Blah.Blah.Blah.
After a nap, I wanted to do something with the cabbage...decided to sauté it with onions and apples, then made it sweet and sour.  Served it with the leftover zucchini pie from last night and it tasted great, even tho it was a weird combo. We have had many vegetarian meals this week.
Chores at 7:30.  Have been so pleased with the weather for the past three days....now if it would just rain. No mask on Buddy.

I got on my old John Deere and found the mask in the last place I looked.

That was that.
Night all.
