Getting a Head Start

It seems like Gary has really gone to town ahead of the norm, shaping up the property.
Today was spent in the gardens.

It was another spectacular morning.
Karen had to do a lot of grooming....
 Queen Piggy.

Gary is on a roll, cleaning out all the leaves and debris from the gardens.  We have a lot of pickets that are going to need painting too.
At 10 we went out to Conrow Farm to pick up some of the nicest 2nd cutting grass I've seen in 20 years (for 30 year old Berlineeee).  Scott was kind enough to provide taxi service.
I had to chase the horses away from the gate so we could get the hay closer to the feed room.

Of course they all came back as soon as they started moving the hay.
Our barn is inside the front paddock and the pastures are next to and behind it.  All the horses we have had, quickly learned where their stalls were and I just had to call them when it was time to come in.  Automatic pilot, but not the greatest when you have to move something into the barn.
Scott also fixed the drag I have been using for the past 34 years.  It is 200% better, thank you very much!

This is the second day Berlin has been watching my every move.

Annette of Oak Creek Ranch in California....how does your rhubarb grow????
Ours will be ready within 10 days.  The garlic is gaining many inches each week.  I even saw some spinach peeking through the dirt.

This afternoon I took a nice shower and gave my arm a rest on 3 pillows with an ice pack.  Ended up watching the Kentucky Derby.  I am so grateful that no horses were injured.
The winning jockey had to be one happy man, winning two years in a row.
Chores at 7:30.  Still mild out there.

 Tucked the girls in.
Gary went down to Sara's (where he works) earlier and came home with some cabbage.  That will be going in the ground very soon.
 What a sunset!

The two new apple trees were planted over near the studio (near our other fruit trees).
Gary just got this shirt from his boss.
 Very appropriate.
The moon was out before the sun set.
Good dinner.  Some friends came over to pick up manure for their gardens and in return gave us fresh spinach (which they planted late last fall) and a jar of pickles.  Bartering is the way to go.
Of course, we ate half of the spinach tonight....
 along with some pasta.

Night all.

Angel...the Queen Of Piggyness...

When good weather is on a roll, I love the morning shadows caused by the bright sunlight.

The girls have lost interest in hay and head straight out to the pastures, even tho the grass is just starting to really grow.

While I was in the yard, Berlin kept watching me.

The real spring has arrived and Gary is starting to get the flower gardens together.  That will take many hours as we have too many.
I spent the afternoon with a local photographer and a couple of friends.  What I would give to have a spectacular camera.

Started on dinner and really wanted to take a nap.  Instead, it was chore time.
Berlin was the only clean horse.
Abbe had dried mud up to her belly....
Maggie must have done her thing too.

But HERE is the real winner of the mud wrestling that must have gone on in the ditch today.
 Can you beat that??????

Sloppy Joes and a wild mac salad for dinner.
Time out!
I need some rest.
Night all.

PS
My arm is improving...still a little swollen....and have to take the edge off with Tylenol a couple times a day (while my arm is on 3 pillows and an ice pack).  Fortunately Gary and Karen help me a lot when I'm in the barn.
