What a bizarre day.
Last night we tried to leave the windows open as it was cooler, but by midnight they were closed again because of the air quality. This morning Little Wonder and I took it easy while Gary went for coffee and delivered some onions. (A serious storm was predicted for this afternoon).
When he got back I left for Wegmans. It was grey outside but dry.
Half an hour later, I was ready to leave and yikes!
None of us wanted to venture out and were waiting for it to settle down. Well it didn't, so I grabbed a Wegmans umbrella and headed for my car.
Just when I got there the water was over my shoes.
Gary was kind enough to grab the groceries when I got home.
We had another new hibiscus blossom today and the other three had faded.
Eventually I got outside to grab a better shot.
LW was on high alert with all the thunder and lighting. By 2:30 there had been many warnings on my phone and we turned on the tv to see what they were saying. The word was.....get to your basement or the lowest part of your house....tornado warning! For over half an hour we were waiting for it to get by us and it did. They removed the alert notice but announced that there was severe flooding all over the place. We had gotten 4 1/2 inches of rain in a little over two hours.
By 5 o'clock it was pretty quiet and Gary grilled some corn and chicken.
This morning he picked the rest of his onions so they would not get soaked.
Dinner was simple and delicious,
By the time we finished eating the sun started to come out. Now it is cooler, but muggy again.
Hopefully we will catch a break tomorrow.

Hoping you are getting that break. We are still hot, humid and in great need of rain. I have used the grill exactly twice this summer. It's so hot and humid it feel like torture. I'm the one who grills.
Yikes. Well we've had the same-ish kind of weather. Bad weather here and there. Hot. Smoke. Yuck, ick.
I'm glad you didn't suffer any damage, right? We had branches down from Saturday morning storms, and by evening it was slightly smokey, but nice enough out if you lived on the ridge.
Stay safe. 4.5 inches is too much.
I call deluges like that "South Carolina" rains. So many times when I lived there we would have storms where it seemed like the rain really was being poured from buckets. However, they generally didn't last as long as your storm did - wow!
That is some good looking corn! And the weather...
