Corn Chowder, Pouring and She Sings

A big change in the weather.  Steady rain, high winds and plunging temperatures.  Before turning the horses out, I tried the new blanket on Seamus and love it.  All kinds of opportunities for adjustment.

Seamus is the only one who came in from the rain for a few short minutes.

I made some corn chowder late morning as it's to hard to start dinner by the time I get home from a She Sings rehearsal.

By noon the ponies were back in the barn.  With all the options they have, I can't believe they prefer standing in the rain.

Today we rehearsed at Bodziaks.  They had lost power for three hours earlier and while we were there, the sun showed up for 3 minutes.

Today I experimented with my new iPhone....trying to video a couple of songs by placing it on a table in front of me.  We were acoustic and as you will hear, Greg, our percussionist, is not playing a regular drum set.  He is now using "boxes" and the sound is much softer. (For some reason I can't upload the videos).

Our practices have been sporadic and the majority of December we will be on vacation.  It's going to take some effort to get back in a groove.  We will have a gig at the end of January.

Got back to the farm by 4:30 and turned the horses out so Janet and I could reset the stalls.

A perfect night for soup.

My buddy missed out on an afternoon nap with me.

Grgas Honored with State Farm MVC Good Neighbor Award

ST. LOUIS - Illinois State junior goalkeeper Dani Grgas was named one of 12 recipients of the fall 2022 State Farm MVC Good Neighbor Award, the league office announced Wednesday afternoon. 

Grgas, a native of Henderson, Nevada, carries a 3.92 GPA with a major in business administration and management. She appeared in seven games for the Redbirds during the 2022 season, including four starts in the net. She posted Illinois State's only clean sheet of the year in a 0-0 draw with Valparaiso at Adelaide Street Field Oct. 6. Off the field, Grgas is the president of Illinois State's Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) and is also a member of Redbirds 4 Change, a group dedicated to bringing positive change in Athletics, on ISU's campus and in the community. She is involved in other volunteer opportunities with FC Central Illinois, Play4Kay, Bring it Back to Normal, Midwest Food Bank and ISU Pen Pals, among others. 

In order to be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must be in good academic standing, must demonstrate good citizenship through good sportsmanship and significant community service. The Valley recognizes 36 student-athletes annually. Institutions select their State Farm MVC Good Neighbor Award honorees.

Grgas is the eighth player in program history to be honored with the award. It is the third straight season that a Redbird soccer player has received the State Farm MVC Good Neighbor Award after Natalie Vaughn-Low (2020-2021) and Ashley Santos (2021) were honored previously.

Another grey, damp day.

Little Wonder wore his new coat and I finally got the straps sized right.

Rebel and Ronin were doing their dance.

Janet and I picked the pastures and kept them company.  This afternoon Little Wonder and I took it easy.

Then, I got out my uke and started looking for songs by Eva Cassidy.  Love her music.

PM chores.  The electrician came back and now the hot water heater outlet and on/off switch are set.

Seamus's new blanket arrived today.  I'm hoping it will fit....they were all so filthy tonight I will try it on him tomorrow morning after a good grooming.  It's a large foal/small pony blanket.  We shall see.

Pitch black by the time we walked back to the house.

Dinner was SO DELICIOUS!

I took out a bag of our sauce, threw some meatballs in it and made open face sandwiches on ciabatta rolls for dinner.

The combo with an Italian dressed salad is so perfect.
