Up and At 'Um

It was so nice and cool this morning I was ready to roll at 6am.  The boys were in the pasture when I got out to the barn.  Buddy came to greet me.

They ate their breakfast and went right back out.
Gary dropped me off at the Farm Market and went to grab some coffee.  There were not quite as many people today and I only bought tomatoes.

I recognized the people playing music and went over to request a song I had heard them play in the past.  Ironically, it was the next one on their playlist.  Love this song.

We made a quick stop at Wegmans on the way home and the temperature had inched up to 70.  Very low humidity and that was a treat.  As you can see, mulch load number 2 is waiting to be distributed.

Little Wonder goes everywhere with me....even if he's hot.
Gary did some laundry and worked on the raised beds.

I took a very long nap and then made dinner.  The salad....marinated asparagus (balsamic vinigarette), tomatoes, chives and feta cheese.
Fortunately we had leftover lemon pasta.
Chores after dinner.

The boys went into their own stalls tonight and waited for me.

A beautiful evening.
Jenny stopped up with some grass clippings for Gary to put on one of his gardens.

We had a nice chat.
Night all.

Better Late Than Never

Muggy today.  The boys were in the pasture when I got to the barn this morning, went right into each others stalls and were ready to eat.  I can't believe they have been doing this regularly since they have free choice of where they want to be.

It was hot before I was finished....and they were back in the barn.  Smart.

In and out.  In and out.

Gary's raised beds are doing very well.  The garlic will be ready soon....
and the cabbages are starting to form.
I had to go out to the barn for something this afternoon and the boys were back in the stalls.  Gave them each a flake of hay for their eating pleasure.
Gary finished moving the first pile of mulch and another truckload was delivered at 5:30.

I did chores early as we were heading into Rochester for a retirement party.

Rebel and Buddy did not mind.
We were celebrating the retirement of our friend Miles Watts, who we have known since he was about three years old and lived next door to us.  33 years of teaching and boy is he happy!  He has also had a band for as long as I can remember....gigs all the time.  Now his daughter is a recording artist and just graduated from college.
Jenny and Scott were there and they were able to see a lot of their friends from High School and College.  This is her friend Danny Wilson, who has been teaching at Harvard for the past 33 years.  He used to play with Miles in a band and still is involved with 2 more in Cambridge.  We have not seen him for decades so this was special.

There must have been at least 150 people there.  After dinner Miles and his band (Brothers From Other Mothers) played and invited some of his musical pals to join them.  They were great!!!

I brought a cow bell and played along with a few songs (at the table we were sitting at....not on the stage).  Fun.
We left around 9:30 and the sky was beautiful.

There were fireworks going off near the expressway on the way home....probably at the stadium.
It could be only 59 degrees by sunrise.  Yipeeeeeee!
Night all.
