SHENNA IS GONE....

Yesterday when Shenna came in from the pasture she could hardly walk.  In addition to the weakness in her rear end, she was very lame in her front right leg...probably in the shoulder.
I knew then, that it was time to keep her from suffering any further and called the Vet to let her know that she needed to come this morning to put her down.  If you have had to do this with one of your animals, you know how horrible you feel deciding when to end a life.  Her beau for the past twelve years, came into the indoor with us so he would realize that she is gone.  When I put him out of the barn the first time, he started to cry out for Shenna and all of a sudden the other horses started running from the pasture to the paddock.  I think they all knew what was happening.  This will be my only entry for today, as I just can't write more for now.  I'll be back tomorrow (unless I recover sooner).  I want to thank all of you for your very generous comments about our farm and the animals.  Those sweet creatures are worth every minute of this grief.  Shenna's previous owner was here for the whole procedure and two other friends helped after she passed.  They understand and always step up when they are needed...I appreciate it very much.

I stumbled upon your blog just recently, in a search for something I was looking for that was Brockport related. As someone who grew up here, and then returned after a long absence to raise my children in the town I love so much, I have loved your pictures and your postings. They sum up everything I love about this town - what it offers in both people and experiences. And, as an animal lover, I've especially liked reading about the animals on the farm!

I was so sorry to read about Shenna's passing...I can only imagine your grief, but also the wonderful life she must have led...

How sad for you to lose a family member. I'm sure your grief runs deep, but it will fade with time and be filled with all the great memories you created. I am so thankful you have such great people to be with you in your time of loss.
