The unexpected.
Boy! Am I getting tired of muggy and buggy.
I know Annette has had temperatures close to 100 at midnight in Northern California....
and Gayle in Alaska had temps in the low 90s for three weeks...and today it was 113 in Henderson, Nevada....but geeesh!
This morning Gary and I were finishing up our inside duties in preparation for Ariana when we got a knock on the kitchen door. For years, this man has stopped at our farm to see if he could paint our barns and we have said no. Today he lowered the price by $1500 because all the rain has cut off a lot of his business. We finally knuckled under and said yes. I sure would never expect Gary to paint the barns.
Within an hour his crew arrived and they were ready to start.
The horses were in for hours so they would not be in the way. I think they loved it.
We had to move a lot of stuff out of the way so they could get at all the walls. Not what we expected to be doing today.
Gary had to take down the garlic he was hanging on his barn porch.
I was able to pick a couple cups of berries in between all this activity.
I will be very happy to get things back together...wash the windows and do a little trim in white to match the house and indoor.
I can't tell you how thrilled I was to clean the stalls again before evening chores. The pee pots.
I guess this is my contribution to skywatch friday....so crazy around here I forgot all about it.
Already called the contractor about the paint job. Now that it is dry, the color mixing left a lot to be desired and he is supposed to come back on Monday to make it right. We shall see.
Ariana arrives tonight. Yey!

ReplyDeleteHmmm, I think that is the same guy who passes through this area every few years. They painted Farm Buddy's roof a few years ago. I have seen several barns with somewhat uneven paint like that, but the paint does seem to hold up well over time. There is one barn I drive by that got painted this way about 10 years ago and it still looks fresh.
ReplyDeleteYour barns do look absolutely beautiful, I love the color and it is so good to see them being cared for. Those barns are such an irreplaceable treasure and I see so many of them collapsed and ruined from neglect.

ReplyDeleteBummer that the paint job isn't exactly what you hoped for, but Gary not having to do that monstrous buildings is a big plus. And they are going to hold up with that coat to protect them.
ReplyDeleteOur heat is gone. :( Pretty cloudy today and only 50* right now (midnight). I went out to water and got too cold. I've been pampered with the heat.
Oh it is hot and muggy here but wait it is going to rain again. Haying is not going to happen here.

It's good to get it painted and I hope he comes back and fixes the job to your satisfaction. We have also had about 10 days of 100 pus degrees, but at least it's dry heat (Samson says dry or not, it's hot) and since we're in the mountains it cools down at night. This morning it was 54! I haven't visited blogs for a while, so I hope all is well with you and yours.
