I had to wake Sidney up for breakfast...he finally came in the house late last night and I don't think he was feeling all that great. Not interested in food.
This morning (surprise, surprise) we were in the single digits AGAIN. At first the sun just couldn't get past the clouds.
Finally it appeared.
Meanwhile back at the ranch, the dogs and cats were going for a little R and R.
There was no drumming for the past two weeks as Khalid was performing elsewhere, and I was a delinquent for a couple weeks before that. Today I finally made an appearance and it felt good.
When I got home, Gary was down at the Rec Center watching Finn's basketball game so I just relaxed for a few minutes before going out to do chores.
Went out at 5:30 and it was pretty light until 6. What an improvement.
Tucked the girls in and was very surprised when I walked in the house and Gary had made dinner.
Veggie burgers with lots of onions, roasted potatoes and salad. Yum!
On the news tonight, they confirmed what I had heard about months ago regarding the chemicals put in the bread at Subway to make it more elastic!!!!! The same thing used in making gym mats! Guess they are going to stop using it (in a few weeks)....geeee. It's banned in Europe! What is wrong with this country? They said the same chemical is used at MacDonalds but they are going to continue using it as it has been approved. We are doing ourselves in for the mighty buck. So pathetic. Do you know what is in the food you are eating?????
There is a little good news tho, a few prominent companies are going to stop using GMOs in their products and many farmers have caught on regarding the big push by the big "M" and will quit using their seeds (over 60 countries have banned their products). Isn't it ironic that gazillions of dollars have been spent by very popular brands to block labeling products that contain GMOs? If it's so good for you, shouldn't you be proud to have it on the label? What a crock. Hopefully this country will think more seriously about what we are doing to manipulate corn, wheat and soy, and the impact it is having on us. What do other countries know that we are not acknowledging? If more people were aware of what they have been consuming, it could make a difference. Did you ever wonder why more and more people have allergies and are becoming gluten intolerant? For the past 30+ years we have planted organic vegetable gardens and have finally gotten an extra freezer so we can store as much as possible and know what we are eating. It's not a bad idea. I should never get started on this topic, as it's very hard to stop. This crap is also in the food we feed our pets.
Check it out. Tune in.
Night all.
First let me say I love your header picture. Hope Sidney isn't sick. We just had Milo to the vet last week. He wouldn't eat either. They put him on antibiotics and he seems fine now.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about the food that we are eating. More people should start growing their own. I received a very disturbing email recently about where and how a lot of our food is grown and processed. All I can say is I don't buy Green Giant frozen veggies anymore and other items.
First and foremost, how is Sidney? Is he feeling better? Secondly, always a pleasure when the hubbies take over and cook the meals; Beloved is such a fantastic cook. Thirdly, GMOs. That's just a Pandora's box of ails right to here. Until all the farmers stick together as one, that behemoth of a company will continue to be the power that dictates how our food is made. Never mind what they're doing to our eco system killing off the bees with their resistant and poisonous crops. Guess what, money grubbing idiots that they are they fail to see that there is a reason why every animal and insect exists. The extinction of bees, I read, will bring life to a halt in just four years. Doesn't that make you all warm and fuzzy? Eh, yeah, I'm right there with you sister sharing that pulpit....
ReplyDeleteMmmmmmmmmmmmhhhhmmmmm.
ReplyDeleteHope your little boy feel better!!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you about the food, and I was glad to read that about Subway, I enjoy going there and had no idea about their bread until it made the news. I do try to eat healthy, but have to admit, I totally didn't do that this morning, and right now, I'm okay with it! :-)
Take care, and stay warm!!
Sidney, hope all is OK there, did he eat too many mice overnight? And all the additives, we are so concerned too, here in NZ, one of Hugh's and my main worries is the huge use of 1080, NZ uses about 80% of the world's supply, imported raw sodium fluoroacetate from US. And all GM food, colourings, preservatives, have huge side effects. Grow your own, what you can, and hope what you absolutely have to buy is safe. Take care with that last huge dump of snow, Cheers from Jean.
ReplyDeleteA young acquaintance got a job at Subway a few months ago and started bring the left over bread to us to feed to our pigs. After we noticed that the stuff NEVER gets stale, we decided it isn't fit for them either. What do they put in a loaf of bread so that it never ages? It scary to think about.
ReplyDeleteHope all the farm animals are well. I love the fact that you grow and freeze your healthy foods. I am too am concerned with the additives in our foods. More concerning is the loss of our bees and other pollinators due to the chemical used as pesticides and herbicide, being used by OUR LOCAL farmers. We have a major decline in the bee population which is going to affect our fruits and veggies. I would invite readers to look up this TED Talk by
ReplyDelete"Marla Spivak: Why bees are disappearing"
folks our pollinators are dying and disappearing due to the genetic changes the chemicals are causing. We have lost all of our bees. I too will get off my soap box.
