The Road to Morroco

and I thought it was going to be a nice day....

Even took the sheets off the horses.  Above is a picture of Berlin....she still has hives or is it the result of things being killed by the Equimax?

The wind kicked up so Karen and I picked a couple bushels of apples before the rest were blown to the ground.  Lucky ponies.
Gary still has a huge volume of leaves to move to the gardens where he has planted garlic.

This is Chef Bill M.!  He has been here since Thursday, totally into many events going on at the college.  He heard that we (the Art and Aesthetics Committee) were making a Moroccan dinner and he was very interested.  In fact (because he knows how to work his way around a kitchen) he started looking up recipes that used the hazelnuts he brought from his tree out in Oregon.
We settled on two that involved beets, so Gary went out to the garden and picked one honkin' big speciman and I roasted it.
We also had a bean/pasta soupie casserole.
 Back to the recipes....
We needed all these special ingredients, so he and Gary went down to Wegmans to pick them up.
Things like goat cheese, maple syrup, Greek Yogurt, sesame seeds, marjoram, oregano, savory, thyme and more.  Plus some wheat Syrian Bread.  What a lunch.

The first thing he made was Za'atar-Spiced Beet Dip with Goat Cheese and Hazelnuts.  Ummmmmm!
Then, we made a salad.  Romaine, scallions, garlic, goat cheese, toasted sesame seeds, toasted hazelnuts (we added craisins to the recipe) and roasted beets. The same herbs listed above (the combo is called Za'atar) were put on top.  Just enough for a subtle flavor.
The dressing was evo and balsamic vinegar.  Another keeper.

It was a fun way to spend a dark afternoon full of spitting rain that was trying to turn to snow.
I took pity on the horses and put their blankets back on.  Too windy with the temp dropping.

Bill had a quick tour before he left.

Wish he could be here to help with our Morrocan dinner!
Speaking of dinner....tucked the horses in and have no intention of making anything.
Night all.

  2. The horses have their coats on here as well, and I think they may be on to stay as that chill rolls in here tonight for a few days where the 's' word is being thrown around. burr!

  3. Lovely sky, food galore so yummy. Lori, this is a long shot, is there anything under Berlin's coats, that could be causing this? Are they wearing winter coats now? Did it happen when they weren't having coats on? Could thistles blow onto the coats and get embedded on the inside? Like little burrs? Down here we have seed heads from forget-me-nots that stick to anything. Hope all is fixed very soon. Greetings, Jean.

  5. I am hauling leaves today too. Trying to get my garlic in before tomorrow. Supposed to have a little snow. I hope that Berlin is on the mend! Poor girl. Also poor you for having to try and figure this out.
