A VERY HUMBLING EXPERIENCE...

Need I say more?

This....
turned into that....
Kinda grey for most of the day, but it was mild from the start.

(see how Abbe is holding her back foot?)
The outdoor arena was almost dried out, so I decided to drag it to quicken the process.  It was under water for weeks.

Back in the house around 10:15, took a shower, Gary put my drum in the car....and by 10:45 I was on my way to Rochester....for my humbling experience.
It did not take me long to get where I was going.
A couple of weeks ago (at drumming) Khalid announced that there would be a workshop and he wondered if anyone from the group wanted to go.  It sounded interesting to me as I have never had the opportunity to drum for dancers.  Figured it would be a good way to get some exposure....
Was I out of my gourd????

The space was fabulous.
The seydi drum & dance workshop was presented by Youssou Lo & Adama (located in Buffalo) and they brought along two young men (16 and 18) who each had about 8 years of drumming experience.  Unbelievable.
Khalid was there along with 4 of us who drum with him on Saturdays.
The dance instruction was fabulous as was the drumming!

Bada be bada boom!  They put me in a chair and we were off to the races.  I participated in two sessions...the first rhythm was not familiar and the 2nd I had done before.  First of all, you have to have serious staying power (and strength) to get through an entire dance session when they drum at top speed.  I was way out of my league and had to chuckle as I did my best to learn.  I could figure out the patterns but boy!  I never drummed so fast.  No regrets tho.  It was a great experience.  I'll bet they were surprised to have some old lady show up.  I split the skin on one of my fingers and on the palm of my right hand (that's how hard I was working).

Got home around 4 something and went across the street to get some eggs from these chickens.
Gary was finishing up some work on the house.
Before going out to do chores, I started dinner and made some fresh applesauce.

Picked the pasture and put the girls in just before dark.
We had a relatively early dinner and after this... it's time for PJs, a fire and couch time.
Night all.

  1. Dinner looks yummy (as always). We're having a simple dinner tonight too. Hats off to you for doing that drumming. I would have been intimidated out of my gourd!

  3. What an experience. Not sure I would have been brave enough to try it. Glad you did. I still can't believe you don't have any snow! What a treat it must be for winter to be so few months of the year instead of most of the months of the year!! Your animals have it so much easier...our animals must be tough.

  8. Good for you! I'm always glad when I take a risk like that and I bet they were happy to have you there. My hands are splitting from the change in weather... a whole other story and not near as much fun.

  11. Sounds like that was an awesome experience! Kudos to you for sticking through it.

Love the dinner. I made simple as well, baked center cut chops, scalloped potatoes (NOT from box) and steamed green beans. I almost took a picture but didn't.

  14. It's often so exhausting to read about all your activities, I think you must be about 35!! Good for you for drumming. I'd love to do that if they'd offer daytime classes.....
