REMEMBERING THE DIVA
This past Tuesday, our good friend Lydia passed away. She was in New Mexico with her family. Ironically, that day we were talking about her in class.
She moved back to New Mexico after spending over two years in Brockport with one of her daughters (and our good friend), Alicia. Everyone in the community knew who she was and it felt like home to her. Before long, she became one of my art students. She was in her 90s...very vibrant! You could see it in her work. Here is the way we all remember her.
As you can see, she had great style. When she came to class, I might still be in my barn ensemble and she would be beautifully dressed. In the photo above, we were having class out at Kendra's lake house.
Below, we were at the Seymour Library for a Skoog Farm Workshop Art Exhibition. There she is with Jean (another student).
Her colored pencil drawings were always bright and reflected her to a "T."
I think she was very proud of her work. We all certainly admired her.
Such a lady....
Can you see why they called her the Diva?
Gracious, humble, sweet, talented, generous .... and much loved by all who knew her.
That is such a nice tribute to a very stylish and talented friend.
ReplyDeleteThat was a nice litelwe glimpse of her, thanks Lori.
Take care dear~
Lori, what a beautiful tribute to your friend. Her artwork was beautiful and she didn't look anywhere close to 90 in these photos. A positive imprint she leaves behind.

I am sorry for your loss, but it is clear your friend enjoyed her long life and that it was filled with creativity into her 90s. What could be better than that? A very lovely post, I know she would have been touched.--Inger
ReplyDeleteLydia sounds a lovely lady. You are very privileged to have known her (and I'm sure she felt the same about you Lori).
ReplyDeleteWarm regards, Mike and Ann.
A beautiful tribute to a beautiful lady---Sara
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear of the loss of your friend. 91! It's hard to believe. She looked much younger. She must have lived life to it's fullest.

ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely way to remember your friend.
ReplyDeleteThose 90-year-olds! They bring us such joy. What a lovely, talented lady, and how lucky she was to be in a place where she was appreciated and celebrated.
ReplyDeleteHer artwork seems very free, cheerful and alive to me. She must have been a special lady. I'm sorry for your loss.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful lady! I am very sorry for your loss. Lydia lives on through her vibrant art.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments on Lydia. She was everything you say and more: elegant, witty, cooked beautifully in her younger years, admirable gardener, loved her family and her God. She was my mom.
