Almost 200 people were in attendance for what turned into a premier event. This group is the support system for our community .... very generous when it comes to giving to good causes and volunteering when they are needed. They celebrate the 4th of July at the Historical Society, they attend the concerts in the park, they come to my annual art show, they donate to the food shelf, they volunteer at the Welcome Center....and the list goes on.
Tonight the featured speaker was Ann Panning...she is an author and teacher of creative writing at SUNY Brockport. It was my pleasure to listen to this woman! I love her sense of humility and style...her students are very fortunate. Her short story collection, SUPER AMERICA, won the 2006 Flannery O'Connor Award for Short Fiction.

And here is Tina of
Christina's World.
Hey, it's Kendra and Hanny. Jenny is over there with Pete and Carrie. There's Eunice...and can you see Jack and Louise?
If it isn't Carol, and there's Sue with her bottle of wine. Ooops. She is serving it.
Cassie is the Director of the Library.
There's Topper!
If you are looking for community, this is where it's at.
Lori,
ReplyDeleteThanks to you and your committee for another very interesting and entertaining event. When people say they love Brockport (and we do say it all the time) I know it's partly because of you and Gary and all those other hard working people!
Tina
Lori. Communities just like yours are, thank God (and I mean that quite literally) Universal. We live in one. Small time Suffolk (England) looks very like your community, and has the same values, duties, responsibilities, friendships and pleasures. I say again - thank God for it.
ReplyDeleteWarm regards, Mike and Ann.
Literacy programs are so important - the earlier the better. Your community seems so tightknit and involved, and YOU and GARY are one of the ones in the thick of it!
