Everything was glazed this morning...
The sky turned very blue and the sun appeared until lunch time.

Catch the shadows of Winnie and Target?
The snow depth has gone down enough for the horses to venture out into the pastures.

I am really getting a kick out of the pictures I have been sent for the "Dog and Pony Show." Thanks! We are happy to be laying low tonight. Dinner is going to be a big salad with chicken, pears, walnuts (from our own trees) and crumbly blue....some whole wheat pita bread (toasted) on the side. Started a nice fire in the kitchen before chores and will be sitting in front of it shortly.
Gorgeous photos (and love the music!). Must confess that, while I try to be a "now" kind of gal, from January through March I am just counting down until spring. May-babies Unite!
ReplyDeleteLori, you asked about Illami. Well, the way Illami is tied is the typical Hausa way of keeping horses and is what he is used to. It is how all horses in Niger, except the mares at Ishtar’s ark, are kept. You are right in that he is a very placid stallion, the most easy-going I have been with so far. He is fabulous! He does lead an interesting life right now, because Ali’s fifteen year old son Isaku is in love with him, and takes him out two times a day. He’s been introduced to the race track (just for fun) and is LOVING to run with other horses. On the social level, most horses in Niger have trouble communicating because (unless they are in the bush) they rarely get to interact with other horses. Illami is quite the gentleman though and doesn’t go wild at the presence of ladies. Since the birth of Kalahari, we haven’t let him lose in the garden, so yesterday, we let him have the goat pen for a change and let Arwen (who’s been temporarily taken out of the horseyard because Kalahari wants to nurse from her, as she has more than Sahara…) have the garden. A little while later, we heard some intensive “horse talk” - and there was Arwen, having sneaked up to Illami for a chat. Isolde hangs around him these days! :-)
ReplyDeletePretty pictures. We've got ice all around here today, but no blue skies. Your salad and fire in the kitchen sound so comforting on a cold day.
ReplyDeleteroses and snow?
ReplyDeletesomeone has conjured a miracle.
Can I come to dinner? I don't want to cook tonight, and yours sounds lovely.
