In an hour or so a mini blizzard will be blowing through Brockport and moving into Rochester. It should be in Buffalo about now. Snow squalls for a short period of time with no visibility. After that, it will be getting colder and by 7am, 3 degrees with wind chills down to -20 or more. Yippeeeee.
Once again, we put hay behind the indoor so the horses could be protected from the wind this morning.
Because they are spoiled, we also hung hay nets under the shed roof. Actually, they left a lot of hay today.
This afternoon I went to the Library to play bridge. We came in last and I had so many good hands! In duplicate, you just never know what's going to happen.
Before tucking the ponies in, Janet and I emptied out the water trough and turned it upside down to prevent it from freezing into a solid block. The horses will be inside tomorrow (or the most part), drinking from buckets. By Saturday we should be in the mid 20s.
Tomorrow, when we clean the stalls, they can go eat in the indoor.
Fortunately, the temperature in the barn was 31 degrees. Let's see what it is in the morning.
Dinner was easy, I heated up the bratwurst and sauerkraut and served it open faced on ciabatta rolls with a side of the remaining pasta (added some caramelized onions).
Off duty for now.
Night all.
Praying the cold snap is very brief so chores, animals and wonderful people like you and Janet stay safe caring for them. Be careful.

31 F , ...that's mighty cold.Hope the ponies know what's best and stay indoors all day. Likewise for you apart from feeding out or inside, we always called it " Feeding Out' when we had hay or silage to drop off the trailer for the cows. I helped Dad do that and when I was old enough, drove the tractor.memories your family will have now of all the special times they visit, specially the grandies. If you see NZ with massive flooding on the news, that is in the Auckland area at least 5 hours north of us. Massive home loases and 4 deaths.Devastation like I have never seen down bere before.
ReplyDeleteIt is nice that you have a place for them to get out of the winds. I thank our hills and woods for that every winter day.
ReplyDeleteI thought I read NY was in for it! Hopefully you aren't getting hit too hard. My horses are in today but will be able to get out tomorrow. I hope you can get a nap by the fire.
