Good Morning Colic With Abbe....

Chores as usual.  I fed the girls, put them out and cleaned the stalls.
Phoebe and Little Wonder went in the house while I threw down some hay from the loft.

When I finished, I looked out in the paddock, Abbe was down
and Berlin was checking her out.
First she started to roll, getting her blanket totally soaked in the mud.
Maggie came over and Berlin chased her off, protecting her best friend.
She got up and started pawing, then went down again and was flat out.
I grabbed a halter and lead rope and put her in the indoor with Berlin.
First I took off the muddy blanket, then I started walking her.  At first I could hear no gut sounds.  She did not want to go down again so I did about 30 seconds of free lounging
and then gave her a little massage around her tail.  She loves that.
Fortunately, I heard some real growling and put on another blanket.
The mud was still wet on her neck and legs so I could not get her
cleaned up.  When I turned the two girls out, things seemed back to normal.

We kept an eye on her all day and everything seemed ok.
Seeing that I missed working out yesterday, decided to go to Agape and ran some errands.
Most of the day was very dreary.

I got home around 2 and started making a pot of corn chowder.
Gary ate at the regular time
and I did not have a chance to try it until I got home from a meeting at the Town Hall.
When I finish this I'm going to get out by the fire.
Night all.

  1. Glad it was a mild colic with Abbe. Flash used to get mild colic once in a while -- and its always nerve wracking.

  2. I'm glad Abbé seemed to recover quickly from her bout of colic. That always scares the hell out of me.

  3. We've had to watch our critters with all the up and downs of the weather changes. It is staying mild and gooey, mushy, and melting around here. Mica is one of our gals very sensitive to weather, but she has done very well this year.
