I did the usual things....chores, grand jury, all kinds of errands on the way home.
When I go† here, Gucci was very weak and far from being herself. She has not been normal lately, but even this morning went out to the barn with me. I took her down to the Brockport Animal Hospital and she was taken in immediately. Her blood work is not good. Red blood cell count is not even half of what it should be. I am so grateful to Dr. Edwards and am hoping something can be done for her. She has not been eating normally and has been very withdrawn. Poor little girl has been trying to keep up, even tho she is truly anemic. Very worried.
Night all.
I hope your dog is feeling better. Not much makes a person feel worse than when their dog is not happy or healthy. I truly hope she will be better soon.
ReplyDeleteOh Lori I'm so sorry to read this! Will be thinking about you guys and Pheobe. Hope she's better soon. Is she back home or does she need to stay at the vet's?
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about her troubles and sending best wishes and prayers - I believe in praying for animals as well as people.
ReplyDeleteYou've probably already done this, but if not, talk to your vet about tick borne illness. It is Spring and anplasmosis is rampant this year. It generally presents as lethargy and anemia. Bloodwork often mimics signs of cancer and many vets look there first rather than suspect ticks. A SNAP test costs about $30. The test may show only very slight positive, but that is enough to cause anemia and renal problems.
ReplyDeleteI just had this conversation with a friend, her sister's dog presented the same way you have described. The vets decided that she did not need to be tested for tick borne disease because she had been tested in the fall, they charged the owner over $1000 for x-rays and bloodwork, which were all inconclusive. A different vet looked at the case the next day and retested for anaplasmosis because it is Spring. The test showed mild positive. The dog is now doing much better after 24 hours on doxycycline.
I hope that Gucci is feeling better soon and the trouble is something easily treatable. There is nothing worse than having one of your best friend's be sick.

Poor Gucci -- and you must be a worried mess. Please keep us posted. Hoping it's an infection or something similarly easy to fix.
