Woke up to the 50s.
Before I was finished with chores, Mr. Nugent and two of his associates came to remove the pine tree next to the south side of the house. It's over 75 feet high.
Gary took down a couple sections of fence so they would have easier access to the chipper.
This is a very efficient operation. One cuts the branches, one throws them on the ground and one mulches everything (until they get to the big chunks of the trunk). There's absolutely no mess when they are finished.
You couldn't pay me enough to work on this project!
First the branches were removed one at a time.
I had a meeting at the Center at 1pm and decided to let the horses go in one of the grass paddocks before I left. It was finally dry enough
You can see below how they lowered each chunk of the tree. A pretty long process.
We chose to keep all the chips, so they dumped them at the end of the driveway.
They continued to work while I went to my meeting.
The garden we cleaned out and planted last August is in excellent shape with many tulips and daffodils showing up.
This is what was left when I got back to the farm. I want to put a huge plant there.
Even tho it was hot outside, I made a big pot of red lentil soup.
Served it with apples, extra sharp cheddar cheese
and Johnny cake.
Chores at 7. The farrier was here for Maggie and Angel at 4:30. I need to make an appointment for Berlin and Abbe. Ben lives right around the corner and does a great job.
We were supposed to get heavy winds by 2pm, but it did not happen. Instead, the evening was beautiful.
Tucked the girls in by 7:30 and then everything changed. Now it is raining and 67 degrees.
Night all.
Hi Lori, is that Norfolk Pine? It looks like it grew through your porch roof. I seem to have missed your previous posts. My DIL had this tree chopped down here in Marquard. I still have several "tables and stools" from the trunks in my garden.
ReplyDeleteThat was quite the tree cutting job! We have hard warmer weather but with very dry winds. I guess April is going to be one of those interesting months. 4" of rain last week, warm dry this week and near freezing this morning!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a bit of a tricky job to get the tree out of there. It was really in a tight spot. I'm sure you'll think of something interesting to do with the stump. Beautiful sky and landscape pictures.
