Thank You For Your Input!

I was sad to see no improvement in Berlin this morning.  Ended up calling the vet after I took a suggestion from the Dancing Donkey regarding a solution for making her more comfortable.  Ironically, she does not act all that uncomfortable.
Of course Abbe wanted in on the action.

She is still weepy under her jaw and on the sides of her face.  I was hoping she would roll after I got her all nice and wet.  Dr. L. said I should do a wash with betadine (however you spell that) and I did that tonight.

Both Moon and Maggie were sore from their kicking match yesterday.  The horses have been sharing a fence line for two weeks and we brought Maggie and Angel in with the others on leads for two days and stood with them.  On the third day we let them go and stood with them and all hell broke lose.  We shall see how this develops.  Moon and Maggie seem to have this attitude as part of their nature and I don't want any broken legs.

Chorus at 10.

Horse buddies, you will love this table cloth I dug out today.  Gary got it for me at an event he was attending and I forgot all about it.

In the late afternoon, I try to switch the horses so Angel and Maggie can get into the big pasture.  It seems to be working pretty well.

Dinner before chores tonight.  I picked another cup of strawberries and made an ad lib fruit salad....
lomain with noodles instead of spags....
Gary grilled a couple of boneless pork chops...
and I had some homemade applesauce.
Yumza!  (Sounds like something Sharon Creech would say).

Tucked the girls in and am ready for some couch time.
(It was in the high 70s today).
Night all.

  5. One other thought on introductions . . .

The two new mares are probably very tightly bonded - they have the same owner, have travelled and lived together. They're also integrating into a pretty small existing herd. These type of small herd into small herd integrations are typically harder - integrating a single horse into a herd or horses into a much larger herd is easier - everyone wants a buddy, but now each of the small herds is defending itself from interlopers.

So it may take longer. Can you introduce the new girls separately starting with a single horse in your existing herd? Then no one would feel the need to defend anyone else and they could start to bond.

    Just a thought . . .

  6. Hope she's feeling better today. Love that table cloth. The three horse Celtic symbol is one of my favorites.

  7. Well that is interesting that after two weeks they didn't want to be near each other.
Both must want to be the boss and I agree, it is not worth more damage to them.

I'm very used to mules who will act out but rarely touch each other.

I hope they both feel better soon.
