My assistants were here at 7:30 this morning....love having help. Chester is doing better and better off leash and seems like a happy boy (even tho he was naughty last night and helped himself to some things that were not dog food).
The temperature dropped and I covered the girls....not with their heavy Rambos yet. We should still have temperatures above freezing for the next several days. What a weird winter. Mud in February?
At 10am Sally and Judy arrived and we were off to the Rochester Public Market. It felt like we were somewhere in Europe. I love doing things with these two friends as they are very game and we enjoy many of the same things.
You can find so many different things there...from fish to honey to mittens.
First we walked through the entire area to see where the best deals were.
On the way back we did our buying.
After we dropped our purchases off in the car, we headed over to the bakery.
Decided to have lunch at the cheese shop.
Such an "old country" kind of place.
Cheeses from all around the world.
We had paninis...all were different and delicious.
When we got home, I made up a basket for Jenny.
So what did I get today? Cauliflower, $2...Oranges from California, $2.50...3 heads of Romaine lettuce, $2...basket of grapes, $2...Sweet onions, $1...basket of red peppers, $2...5# carrots for the ponies, $2...
Panini rolls, $2...small Italian loaves, 60 cents each...2 pastries, $1 each...
I think that was all.
Home by 12:30 and got started on the applications sent in for the Brockport Arts Festival (that will take place this summer). It will be held in the Village, now that the road construction is complete. They are hoping for 100 vendors.
Chores at 5:15. Belle, Berlin and Abbe each had a pear (they were very ripe) and a piece of carrot...along with their Safe Choice and Beet Pulp. Three easy keepers.
We had a little spitty snow. So many plants are surviving this winter!
Dinner? Some of that crusty bread.
The salad...leaf lettuce, onion, red pepper, 1 orange and 1 banana. Yum.
Finished up the Mushroom Bourguignon....thank you Jill! We will have the soup tomorrow night. Jenny took some for her lunch today and loved it.
Time to get in there by the fire.
Night all.
I'm going to leave the picture of your fire up on my screen. It looks so wonderful. I want to sit in front of it!

You still have green grass??? It's a weird winter here too - the frost is hardly in the ground.
ReplyDeleteI love markets. This looks like a really great one. Yummy meal.
what a wonderful day you had! I love farmers' markets. We are overrun with oranges in the markets here. All citrus is in season. I have lemons coming out of my ears. Its too cold up here on the mountain for them but it seems all my friends have trees and are sharing.
ReplyDeleteIt's like you are having one long Fall instead of Winter. The market looks fun... I would go crazy with those kinds of prices. I only stopped at our Farmer's Market once or twice this summer.... way too expensive. I went to get dill for my pickles and hope to grow my own this summer. (You pick apples off the ground to feed horses and I just spent $10 for 4 honey crisp. Crazy!).
ReplyDeleteOur "good" grocery, Food Lion (yes, that's as good as it gets :-/) just closed. And there there was Wal-Mart. I wish I lived in NY. Sniffle :-(.
ReplyDeleteMore food, glorious food! Yummmmmmmm.
ReplyDeleteHere, ten days ago we had daisies. And now the temperature is -8°c !
ReplyDeleteHere we buy a head of romaine lettuce 1,20 euros and the oranges 2,50 euros.
loved the market!! our farmers market continues year round, but the guy with the food cart doesn't show up till it's warmer. i live for his baking powder herbal biscuits with homecured ham! And the tea...he makes his iced tea in the summer out of lavendar and something else. too wonderful! now i lug home $10 worth of kale, and that keeps me going all week. the squash is all gone.
