RAIN OR SHINE?
When the troops and I went out to the barn it was raining.
The horses could have cared less.
The temperature was about 65 and did not feel chilly at all.
Sidney was not that excited to be walking around on wet stuff.
At 10am Gary and I went down to the chorus rehearsal. We now have 51 members.
Our regular pianist was not there and Greg Turner was kind enough to sub for her. Not only was he great... he is the guy playing the music at our party Friday afternoon....blues and jazz. Terrific voice too. (He was Finn's music teacher last year and has now retired).
Got home a little after noon.... Had lunch.
The cats and dogs were happy to see us.
Today Brockport was being payed a visit by 2 groups from the World Canals Conference. I was to be the greeter at the Welcome Center. Went down early to set up some info and photos.
Two young people came in to sign out a couple of bikes. They had accents and we discovered they were from Australia.
They arrived in this sailboat, which they purchased at one of the other Great Lakes. Their goal...to sail down to the Caribbean, where they will leave the boat and fly home...work for 6 months to save up more money...so they can return for their boat. Very brave!
They have an herb garden on their deck.
There were quite a few boats docked today.
Got things set up for our visitors and they arrived a little after 3:30.
Remember where I mow the lawn...Apple Creek Farm? These apples (gigantic and delicious) were donated by the man who leases the orchard from my friends.
One of the tugs from the flotilla pulled in while we were there.
Mark DeCracker (my friend who started Mural Mania) came in with the first group. The poor guy has been taking photos and videos of the entire conference. He is pooped!
We all walked over to the Lift Bridge Book Store for a brief dedication of the new mural that was painted on the facade of their building.
Scott Hunsinger, a town board member, hosted the presentation.
Two checks were given to the Lift Bridge to assist in the payment of this mural. Here Gary is presenting one of them from the Greater Brockport Development Corporation (he is the Chairman of the Board of Directors). Community support makes all the difference.
Here are some of our visitors in front of the mural (I'm in the red next to Gary).
This is Richard Kron. He and his brother painted the mural from an illustration in a book about the Erie Canal. Kudos for a job well done.
After I took some photos, I went back to greet the second group and they were already there. I offered them apples and they were on their way to explore the area.
Below on the right, is Tom Grasso...President of the Canal Society of New York. It was nice of him to choose to visit Brockport (there were 4 choices).
Home a little after 5. Sent out some photos and went out to do chores.
As soon as I let the horses out (after they finished their grain) they went straight to the indoor.
Finally, we got to the sunny part.
The dogs ran around the yard and the kittens went in the house.
Gary took us to Rorbachs for dinner. I forgot to photograph our great meals. Oh well.
When we got home the moon was really out there.
I'm toast! Night all.
Hi Lori, what a STUNNING header photo. Is that a canal in Brockport with the city in the background? I love the Lift Bridge mural. And the adventurous Australians. I always love seeing your horses, cats and doggies. Thanks for cheering my day. (((Hugs))) Jo
