REST?

Our bed is very high, and I am short...so I use a stool to get in bed. That means Gucci can jump up there easily.

Phoebe, on the other hand, does not have the same springs and needs to be lifted. They both told me how much they love the newly decorated bedroom and snoozing there.

Time to do chores tho, so they had to get rolling. It was a mild morning...very grey.

Gary came out and helped me clean a couple of stalls. His walking partner is out of town so he was back at the farm early.

Everything was set by a little after 9, when an electrician showed up to make a couple of changes in our bedroom.

I am making a real effort to simplify things around here, so I had a lot to put away or dispose of. Each time Gary paints a room, I will get rid of more stuff. The next room is the library, and we have hundreds and hundreds of books...just packing it up is going to be a major chore.

We met Jenny and Cooper at 11:30 down at the Golden Eagle for lunch.

Cooper put on Grampa's hat so he could pretend he was Indiana Jones.

Got home in time to vacuum and get ready for my class.

Look at what Donna brought....a cherry pie from Sweetie Pie's (a bakery in Chili). Every once in awhile we have a special treat and this was one of those days. I just happened to have some vanilla ice cream...first things first.

Mel showed up with two pieces he completed during the last week. This cardinal, in colored pencil...

and a water color. He has been busy!

Donna brought in some samples of the cards she is making...sometime she will lead us in a paper card making session.

My students are such multi taskers...they can eat, drink tea and work...all at the same time.

Sandy's pastel pencil horse is starting to take shape.

Donna has started painting a watercolor of her daughter's barn.

Colm worked on a drawing of a lion. I so admire his style.

Tina started on a drawing of bunnies...

Dick worked on an acrylic painting he started a long time ago.

Here is another drawing from Colm. All you horse people would love to have him do a portrait of your horse.

Tina and Sandy bring little treats for Phoebe and Gucci.

They have to work to get them.

Dick brought in several pieces for our upcoming show.

His acrylic painting of an iris...

a pear...

and the barn painting he finished a few weeks ago.

Dick is a retired Prof from SUNY Brockport, where he taught Criminal Justice. His wife gave him art lessons with me as a gift, and he has been coming here off and on for years. It has been such fun watching him develop...he has a real style now.

Around 4pm, I took a nap. Somtimes that doesn't work too well and I get up groggy. There is no reason for me not to rest during the day, but 99.9% of the time I don't. Why not?

I didn't go out to the barn until after 5:30. Hay and water were all set up, so all I had to do was grain and paddock picking.

Got all the ponies tucked in and it was pretty dark when I got back to the house.

Dinner? Leftover pasta and a tomato salad.

I keep getting sucked in to watching the Olympics. It's like a marathon isn't it?
The word is that a big storm is coming our way about Thursday...maybe a foot of snow.
Yipppeeeeeee.....

Over and out. Night all.

  2. Foot of snow? Isn't spring around the corner? We're just hitting another cold snap with temps dropping below zero at night, windy too. Love the artwork your students are doing!

  3. Ah, there is nothing better than leftover lasagne. Delicious looking dinner. It's funny that Gucci has the stool figured out but not the Phebe...I think she likes the added attention, "Lift me mom."

We are doing the same thing as you are with cleaning rooms now that the house is finsihed following our its 2 month-long major structural repair. But we finally figured the library and books situation a while back. One entire wall of books that we share. If it doesn't fit (meaning give away a book) it goes to the library or a gif. No exceptions...yet.

I so apprciate your visits to Tampa DP and nice comments. You and the farm life have become a part of my day so it'll be hard to break the habit. I just could not continue to post if I am not going to be here much. I will keep visiting you as often as I can Lori. You've probably guessed that I fell in love with the Skoog Farm and its two legged and four-legged family.

Again thank you for being a favorite Follower and keep posting your wonderful life. Dr. Porter is going to miss my company...I think. But I know I will miss him.

    I'll visit again soon!!

  4. Hi Lori, I'm looking for an electrician to do the work in my new house (if I ever get a closing date-aarrrggghhhhh) and was wondering if you could tell me who the electrician was? I am trying to use local folks as much as possible but don't know many. I love the color of your bedroom. And watching you guys paint is giving me ideas!!! Thanks for all your help!! Cindy

  7. Lori,

Those puppies of yours look mighty comfortable! Just as comfy as my cats at home are in my bed as well. What a life they lead, no?

On another note, I was off this week and did some MAJOR spring cleaning at home. A lot of items were donated including boxes of books that I also had on hand that I did not want to keep nor read again. It felt soooo good!

It's good to seriously purge every now and again.

Hope you are doing well, my friend!

    ((hugs))

  8. Lori, I am sooo glad I found your blog at Esther's place. I read most of your past notes, and enjoyed them a lot.
What do you think of that whole situation?

  10. Wow I love that painting of the iris he did. It just seems to pop right off the canvas. Love it!

The others are great too! Really wish I could join your class. :)

  11. I'm so impressed with the talent of your students. I used to love creating art when I was younger but after having kids, I'm just too busy, especially with their homeschool schedule. I really wish I could find the time to fit in more creative time.
Are all of your students 'empty nesters', or do you have some with young children, too?

You stinker. You always have to end each post with a photo os a delish meal. Most days I barely have enough time to make egg and bacon burritos, much less such beautiful, well rounded meals that you do.
Want to move in and be my personal chef? My family would adore you! :)

  13. I used to drive for the carriage company in Lexington and at night we'd pull the trailer up in front of the downtown livery, open the back door, open all the horses stall doors and they'd all walk themselves out of the barn and into the trailer. They lived on a farm just outside of town so were lucky to go home most nights.
