SNOW IS ON IT'S WAY....TONIGHT

It rained last night and the paddock was muddy muddy. Grey, cold and ugly out there.

I am so lucky to have that shed roof! The hay is dry and the horses have protection.

I also put a hay net in the other run in, in case any of them get kicked out.

After I washed off my boots at the hydrant, I took a few photos of the last signs of fall. Tomorrow is the first day of December!

All these beautiful green things are going to be frozen in the near future.

By now, the Snow on the Mountain (below) is usually gone!

Inside, my Christmas Cactus continues to put out beautiful blossoms.

My little palm tree continues to grow....

Does anyone know where these dry "balls" come from?

The girls lounged around, but there was no beautiful sunshine coming through the windows today.

What are you doing today Dr. Porter?

After lunch I decided to do a little shopping for myself.

When I got in the car, the sky was starting to look a lot more like winter.

As I drove east on the expressway, the sun came out for a little while.

There were all kinds of sales going on at Rowe Photo, so I went in to check out the cameras.

I looked at a Nikon...

...and a Canon (this is the one I went in to see). There was quite a range in prices, depending on where I looked. On line they were $450, at Walmart $399 and at this store (probably the best photo shop in our area) it was $369. This price will hold for most of December. I liked the rechargeable battery in the Nikon, but the Canon seemed better made...it also is very highly rated. So I did it. Do any of you have this camera and do you have any hot tips?

I have to give this place a plug. The gentleman who waited on me was very knowledgeable and answered all my questions. There are three locations in our area...this one happened to be in Greece, NY.

Home, chores, dinner....fire, pjs, couch time.....
Night all.

  1. The dried flower balls look like they might be some sort of Allium (onion) - there are some ornamental kinds that put out very large round flower heads.

I'd like to have your shed roofed run-in - our horses have no shelter of any kind in the pastures and dry lots, which makes it hard when it's windy.

  2. The dry balls look like onion seeds.

Any snow yet? The first time I saw snow, I was 20, (cming from tropical borneo) I thought some one had sprinkled white fertiliser pellets. My Canadian friends LOL

  3. Hi Lori. I use a Fujifilm Finepix E500. It's a fairly simple camera (I'm no expert as far as photography is concerned) but seems to be more or less foolproof. First real frost here today, so I know what you mean about winter. Cheers, Mike.

  4. Congratulations on the new camera! I have a Canon Powershot but I think it's a different model number. I like it most of the time but I think I've gotten some dirt in the lense and it's better in the outdoor, natural lighting. Nice photos. I assume they were taken with old camera. Can't wait to hear how it goes with the new one.

  5. My camera is also a Canon EOS 30D ...spent entirely too much money on it a couple of years ago.. $1400.. and also have a second lens that was $800. Get this...I use a cheap $200 point and shoot. I can carry it in my pocket, it's quick and easy and I don't have to worry about it getting dirty or dropped. I still use my "big" camera for sporting events, but I have to take it in to be cleaned. I have sand on the sensors and all outside shots are a mess. Several hundred to clean it though so I'm waiting until after the holidays.

I guess I spoke to soon asking when you'd get snow. Bummer! We have a Chinook wind blowing through today and it is +35 in town (I only have +26 here on the hill). I'm usually warmer than town, but it must be the way the wind is blowing. Makes for such horrible roads.

What can I say...embrace your inner winter and make the best of it.
