THE INDOOR GALLERY

This is the side entrance from the paddock (when not in use, the horses can go in and out)

On the west end there is a people door, that many horses have come through.  It opens to our lawn, along with a traditional sliding door.  I keep netting over the opening of the big door to keep the birds out.

The East end opens to a 90 x 200 outdoor sand arena and we have been known to ride in an out depending on the weather.

The north side opens to the paddock.

This is a photograph that was made into a postcard.  The horse on the left is Marieke, the Dam of Berlin (the horse I ride most of the time). She is facing her brother, Hollander, who went on to become a great event horse.  Their sire was Abdullah, a Trakehner that was in the 1984 Olympics winning gold and silver medals.  He was ridden by Conrad Homfield.  Dully also won the World Cup in jumping on the day his grandaughter, Berlin was born...he did this in Berlin (of course).  Sadly, Marieke was put down at age 19.  I will never have a horse that can come close to her abilities....and she is missed.  Her daughter is now 23!  Time has flown.
This drawing was done by one of my 9th grade students when I was teaching at the High School.

Interestingly enough, he was also our next door neighbor.  He gave me this 18x24 drawing and it now hangs in the indoor.

In 1992 I went to a friend's horse farm and she had built a small indoor.  I asked her how she did it... she told her boarders she would build it if they would be willing to pay more board and they all said yes.  I thought!!! why can't I do that?  So I researched the possibilities and ended up with this.  It is wooden with a shingled roof and is warm in the winter and cool in the summer.  Not huge, but has been great for all the clinics that have been held here.  I started hanging laminated horsey photographs and now I have a little gallery.  (By the way, I have not had boarders for two years and I am still paying for this structure...should be done in two years...worth every penny).
