On Saturday night we went to a Masquerade Ball that was a fundraiser for a local service organization. You did not have to dress for it (we didn't), and it was well worth attending as the live music was provided by the Brockport Community Big Band. It was right on, ranging from old standards to more recent arrangements of funk and popular tunes. The group came about when a trumpet playing, Sweden resident, Lorie Bryant, wanted to revitalize Big Band Jazz music from the 40s. They began rehearsals in January 2005 under the direction of Neil Hartwick and have been cookin' ever since. Last summer they performed at the Rochester Jazz Festival....that says something about the caliber of music they produce. We went with a group of friends and enjoyed the sites and sounds.
