Another Old Fashioned 4th of July

Perfect weather for all of today's activities.

I did chores a little early so I could grab a quick shower.

At 9:15 I drove Gary down to Brockport as he and Jenny were volunteering at the food tent for the Morgan Manning Independence Day celebration.  The house was in a fire back in January and they could not hold the festivities there.  This year it was being held on the lawn of Hartwell Hall (at SUNY Brockport) next to the Alumni House.  Fortunately the historical society has a great relationship with the college.  I took a ton of photos and videos....here are a few.

At 9:30 they were getting ready for the Children's Parade.  Lauren L. was there with the full crew from Camp Abilities ( for children who are blind or visually impaired).  Finn has been volunteering for the last three years, working with the instructors this time.
Plenty of participation!  Lots of kids, Moms and Dads. This was taken as they returned.
It was nice to see Finn there.
By the time the food tent opened at 10:30, people were ready to buy hot dogs, hamburgs and Italian sausage (with peppers and onions).

Each year the music department of the High School organizes volunteers for a community chorus and a community band.  They have three rehearsals to prepare and anyone can participate.
The age range.....10-80ish!

So many of our pals were there.

They also featured THE GREAT AMERICAN JUKE BOX for two hours.  Very nice!!!
(The photos above and below were taken by C. Putnam)
Throughout the day there were games available on the lawn and it ended with the Cake Walk.
Do you know what that is?  About 25 cakes were donated.
This was my contribution.  Frosted brownies with walnuts.
Jenny worked her butt off for hours (she is on the Morgan Manning Board).
Back home a little after 2.  I had already come home for a short break around 11 to check on the animals.  The 4th of July is not the best day for any of them....or Vets, for that matter.
Little Wonder was ready for lunch.  So were the cats.
Took it easy during the afternoon.  Gary continued working on the gardens by the Studio.
Many more flowers are blooming.  I hope they stick around for the tour.
Chores a little after 8.  Some a$$h(s) in the neighborhood were blowing off fire crackers so I put the boys in a little early.  Rebel was ok, but Buddy was on high alert.

I left the radio on....real loud.  The sunset was beautiful.
Fortunately Little Wonder is pretty good about the noise.  Just went out to check on the horses as all kinds of fireworks were going off.  Rebel's head was hanging out the window and as expected, Buddy was worried.  Left the lights on for now and will go back out again.  I want a law that says only fireworks without the sound can be used.  They do it in Europe.  Why are we so stupid????
Night all.

The Garden Saga Continues

I love it when the humidity is down! I woke up at 5 and could not get back to sleep.  The sunrise was blinding.

This morning Buddy was in Rebel's stall with him and when he realized it was time for breakfast, went to his own.  Last night I opened up their gates so they were free to roam.  Once again there was plenty of manure in the run-in area by Buddy's stall so they must be spending a lot of time there.

Now, I think they expect a little hay when they come in from the pasture (while I am finishing up).  Gave them each a flake under the shed roof.

When it was pitch black out last night, all this equipment was being used in the field to the south of us.
At 1 I was at the library for bridge.  Anne was my partner and we came in first.  Had the best cards!
While I was gone, a man came to change out the filters in our reverse osmosis system.  It gets more expensive every year....but it is worth it.  Even tho we now have public water, we still use it as it gives us the purist water you can get. It is just for our drinking water. When he left, Gary was back out there working in the gardens by the studio.
No cooking tonight.  Chores at 8.

There will be fireworks at the Community Center when it gets dark...so the boys were left in their stalls with the radio on.  I HATE fireworks.  Torture and fear for all animals....and veterans.
Night all.

PS
Of course I was tuned in to the voting last night and part of the time today.  Jefferies had to be exhausted after speaking for over 8 hours in a row.  He did a great job, reminding all of the spineless rs of what they were voting for.  Isn't it hard to believe that they are all so heartless?  The threats from T must be very heavy.  So now we are living in a dictatorship....pretty soon things are going to boil over.
