The Vet Was Here By 9:15

When I got out to the barn this morning, Rebel was so lame he could hardly put any weight on his left front foot.  Called the vet and she and the new Intern were here within an hour.  Of course being Saturday it was an emergency call.  I had Buddy (company) in the grooming room while they were here.  Rebel's vitals were fine....they x rayed his foot....no rotation in the coffin bone....that was good news.  When she put hoof testers on him she found a sensitive spot and worked on it a bit.

Ironically, Little Wonder warmed up to the intern in no time.

He does have thin soles and the Vet thought he did in fact, have an abscess.  We shall see.  She also helped me figure out the boots (soft ride) that I had never used and seemed to fit well.  So I soaked him with epsom salts...

left my homemade boot on his right foot and put the soft ride boot on his left foot.  The bute had not started working yet and it probably felt pretty clunky.  There was good padding inside so I cut out a piece of parchment paper and put it in, topped it with a sole pack... closed it up and that sure was a lot easier than making a boot.

He gimped around the pasture all day and progressively got a little better by evening chores.

Buddy's Mom stopped over with some carrots and apples, so we went out to see him.
She is very appreciative that he is here getting spoiled everyday.  And Rebel also likes having a companion!

I tried to do a little garden cleanup but that did not last long as the humidity makes me feel like crap....especially since I got the pace maker.  Eventually we had dinner but I didn't feel that great and did not eat much.  My stomach was messed up and I wonder if it's stress from worrying so much about my horse.
We had two separate heavy downpours and then the sun came out.

I went out a little early for evening chores as I figured I would have to do some extra stuff for Rebel.
As you can see...he was able to put weight on his left foot....still gimpy, but doing better.

Took both boots off for the night.  He has plenty of bedding and should be ok.

Once they were tucked in I got on my trusty John Deere and went on a mask hunt.  The sky was spectacular....a little after 8pm.

Little Wonder did not go with me tonight.  Took these last shots in the dark.

Night all.

More Sauce

It was a hot one today.  85 and very muggy.

Rebel was the worst ever this morning.  I never should have let him go without boots.  Called the vet and he can have a gram of bute per day until Tuesday morning when she will be here.  After chores I went out to get him and he was as far away as possible.  SO GIMPY...this time on his front left.

I got him back to the grooming room and put a boot on him.  (Before that I gave him his bute with a syringe.  Normally he eats it in his food).  Anyway. after he was wrapped he would not put any weight on that foot so I could do the other.
Buddy kept us company.  They each got a quick brushing and were sprayed.
They always think it's spa day when the grooming room door rolls open,

Thank heavens it went pretty well.

Afterward we picked more tomatoes and peppers to make our final batch of sauce.  This pot for Jenny.  It's hard to see the tomatoes out there and not do something.

By that time, Little Wonder was roasting.  Me too.

We made up a couple of veggie baskets for friends and Gary dropped them off this afternoon.

Our friend Janet stopped up with some hay questions.  She gave me some advice on boots that may fit Rebel.

He was moving quite a bit better by then.
Dinner was leftovers.

Tucked the boys in and Rebel let me put the other boot on.  Such a good boy.
They are not pretty, but they give his soles some protection.

Sitting in front of a fan.  Cooler tomorrow.
Night all.
