Lollypop Farm

It started out grey this morning and I was hoping for rain.
Fortunately the temperature was fine the entire day....for a change.
Before noon, Gary and I headed in to Victor
 where Lollypop Farm is located.
This is the Humane Society complex and it is quite amazing.

They handle 15,000 animals each year.

Horses, cows, goats, pigs, llamas, emus, rabbits, rats, hamsters, all kinds of birds and more.

We were there to look at this little old man.  His name is Sage and he is 13 years old, looking for a nice home to finish out his life.  Friendly, perky, adorable and....
currently growing back some hair on his back where he had dermatitis.
He also has cataracts.
My line of thinking is changing and I am very influenced by another blogger...
Kim at Golden Pines.  She takes in golden retrievers, labs and other dogs who have been deserted for one reason or another.  Usually they are old with some sort of problem, and she has support from various rescues.  I have been reading her blog for years, and she has had to put dogs down many times, leaving me in tears.  BUT! No matter what, she has given them love and quality of life until the end.  I'm beginning to think this would be the right thing to do for this dog.  They say his family's house burned down and now he can't live in an apartment with them.  I'm not so sure what I think about his story....but I do know that he is very sweet.
If he is still there, I will take Phoebe over to meet him on Monday.
Because he is a senior and we are seniors, there would be no fee...such an incentive to find homes for these oldies but goodies.
What do you think?
On the way home we stopped at Eastview Mall and had lunch at PF Changs.
We started off with lettuce wraps and each had a chicken dish.
So busy eating I forgot to take pictures.

We headed back to the farm a little after 3.
Reading and nap time until I went out to do chores.
This was like a vacation day.

Tucked the girls in and was happy to have cooler weather.

French toast for dinner at 9.
 Night all.

I think it's wonderful. It's a very special time taking care of special needs animals. One of our dogs got diabetes and went blind and then deaf and we got him through three more years and still love him so much although he's been gone two years. There is a rescue down here that takes in old dogs and if someone adopts them that's fine but if not, they just keep them and give them wonderful lives until their time comes. Do it, you'll love it!

Sage is very sweet. It sounds like a wonderful idea to take Phoebe to meet him. If all goes well I think he would make a wonderful addition to your family. Poor guy, to be an older dog with no place to live must be confusing for him at this stage of his life. How could someone give up their dog after all those years.

Oh Lori, I don't know what to say... Other than I so hope your girl Phoebe approves of this handsome boy! And if Sage becomes a member of your household, I can also promise you that without a doubt, you will never regret opening your home and heart to him. Paws crossed that it's a match!! And if it isn't, I hope you'll keep looking to adopt another senior that needs a wonderful home and family like yours!
