18 TONS

Another beautiful morning.  Clear and comfortable.
 Chores as usual....
My assistants were there to help.
For two weeks I have been trying to get a load of clay/sand delivered.  We really needed to build up the run-in area in the horse barn.  The delivery part was just not happening...So this morning I tried a different trucker and I had it within 90 minutes!  That's what I call service.

I ordered 12 yards...they told me 1 1/2 tons/yard....does that sound right?  That would be 18 tons...what do ya get...another day older and very tired.
Jill and Ralph arrived to check on the cats and immediately pitched in helping move that pile.
Fortunately, the majority was moved with a front loader, and we used a wheel barrow to build up some of the stalls.
Invited our helpers in for some tomato sandwiches....what else?  Tis the season.

The sky was wild all day long.
At 2:30 our friend Kim (artist/gallery owner/Albion) stopped at the farm to buy some garlic.
Her brother owns The Crooked Door... that I have written about (so many times).
It took quite awhile...but I finished up the last pile, spreading it under the shed roof.  Just like a beach.

Now it just needs to be flattened.

Dragged myself out to do evening chores.

Then I went across the street to meet the two new minis.
Harley arrived first...he was weaned today.  A real cutie.
A little later Dancer was trailered in.

Both are adorable and it looks like they will get along just fine.
I'm glad Dancer is there to keep Harley company on his first night without his mama.

A very late dinner.  After that PBS show last night, it is going to be hard to eat meat.  This country treats it's animals so poorly it makes my stomach ache.  What a sick society.  I can't even write about it, it will make you cry.  Pretty sad isn't it?
A fresh salad and rosa marina with tomatoes.

When I went out to put the ponies in, the moon was amazing.
 The sunset was something else.
I went to Wegmans a little after 9.  We were out of everything!
It's 11 pm and I have not take a shower yet...what a day.
Night all.

Hi Lori,
I haven't been here in awhile-LOVE your header oicture!
& Wow you sure do fit a lot in a day!

I know how you feel about eating meat. They sell humanely raised meat here on Long Island. It's expensive though & I am sure most people can't afford it but I can't stomach buying anything else so I just buy less of it & get the good stuff when I do buy it.
I didn't see the PBS show, I'll have to look for it.

thanks for the invite the other day, you know I love your dinner pictures! Don't be surprised if I come knocking on your door one day around supper time!

Did you see Food, Inc? It is a great movie including DuPont's rough treatment of farmers because the wind blows and causes cross pollination. I have enjoyed a cleaner and more humane diet for 2+ hrs. Home grown and home made is quite nice.

Garland is another important movie to see about hydrofracking - a giant concern for this country.

Thanks-
Pam

Wow...you were out shopping late!

The sand/clay stuff looks good. Bet it was a lot of work to get it moved. Hope tomorrow is a little easier on everyone's backs.

Beautiful skies. You do sound like you won't have any trouble sleeping. The little mini's are adorable. Harley looks so sad like he misses his mama.Glad he'll have some company.

Gasland is the movie about hydro fracking - a water contaminating technique that is coming our way if we don't start paying attention.
Thanks,
Pam

What beautiful scenery you have!! And I LOVE that you have garlic for sale. I recently realized how fabulous garlic is to cook with and am hoping to have my own in a couple of years.

Those minis are too cute. Dancer looks like a dancer to me -- the way his neck is arched in the first picture.
Spreading sand is exhausting. I bet you slept well last night - and hopefully took some Advil to help with the aches.
I know what you mean about meat. I didn't see that show but have seen enough to make me sick too. I buy very little meat so I can afford to buy local, grass fed stuff.

It's good to have friends when there's a pile of work to be done.
