TOURING LOCUST HILL FARM...

Tonight we had dinner with friends and an opportunity to tour their property inside and out.  I could not resist sharing what we saw...so inviting and ready for Architectural Digest.

ABBE IN MOTION...

Today I harnessed up Abbe and put her to work.  She will have a lesson tomorrow and I want her to be somewhat prepared.

CAN'T YOU JUST SMELL IT?

THE SKOOG FARM

Here are several shots of our house and property.   The deed was dated April 15th, 1853 and the farm was owned by Charles Nelson.  In his will (June 1886) he said:  "I also give and bequeath to said wife, her heirs and assigns my best covered buggy my best single harness, my wolf robe and my horse known as 'Flora.'  ....later he says (to his son for carrying on the farm) "all the farming tools and implements which he shall consider needful for such purpose, two best cows. 3 best swine, 65 best sheep and 20 fowls and all the horses and colts on the farm except said Flora...."  His wife, Charlotte, died on January 8, 1896.  The farm went through other family members and in 1959 the MacVeans purchased it.  We bought 5 acres with the house and barns from them...the tenant house was sold with 2 acres and the remaining 140 plus acres went to a local farmer.  A lot has taken place here over the years.
Reading the wills, abstracts and history has been so interesting.  Oddly enough, the wife of the man I buy hay from, was part of the family of Bertha Nelson, who owned the farm in the 1930s.  There used to be a barn for the workhorses where we now have the pergola.  It burned down over 60 years ago.  Gary broke up the cement flooring an created a stone wall around the garden.  So many stories.....

BACK TO THE HOOD...

These are two houses next to ours.  The grey was originally the tenant house for our farm.  The white house is across the field to the North.

QUESTO E PER LEI...

"This is for you."  Sunlight outside the barn and inside the barn.....

APPLE CREEK FARM...

I made my mowing debut for the season at a friend's property in Brockport.  The apple trees are just about to blossom.

CORBETT PARK...

This morning Jenny took the boys to the playground.  There are no nets on the tennis courts, so they could ride their big wheels all over the place.

THE ERIE CANAL HAS WATER!

The canal is now full of water and will open on May 1st.  Over 100 volunteers will man the Welcome Center, taking care of boaters who visit Brockport.
